Screens applications and understands skills and competencies required for open positions; recommends qualified candidates.
Conducts criminal history checks and monitors employee criminal activity.
Maintains accurate and up-to-date Human Resources’ databases, records, and documentation by ensuring all files (Posting/Personnel/Criminal/Medical/TWC, etc.) are accessible and well maintained by conducting routine verification assessments.
Assists and supports the Leave Administration team with FMLA, Workers Compensation, Paid Parental and other forms of leave administration processes from the employee's initial notice of the need for leave to the return to work. This includes gathering, completing, and reviewing all required paperwork to determine leave eligibility.
Creates and maintains accurate and up-to-date human resources records.
Collaborates with management and employees regarding open positions and job postings.
Inputs, manages, and retrieves information from various Human Resources system.
BA/BS degree from and accredited college or university in Human Resources Administration, Business Administration, or a related field of study.
Two (2) years of Human Resources related work experience.
Upon receiving a conditional job offer, every applicant undergoes a criminal background check, and drug screening.
Certified copies of transcripts of educational credentials and/or college credits will be required during hiring process.
Every employee is subject to random testing for drug and alcohol or if there is a reasonable suspicion to believe that the employee is under the influence of a substance prohibited by this policy while in the course and scope of employment.
If public emergency is declared by county, staff could be assigned to other duties and/or facilities and/or under the supervision of another county department.
Must be 21 years old.
Experience working as a HR Generalist or HR Business Partner
Experience in leave administration.
HR Certifications a plus (SHRM, PHR, etc...)
Regular Full-time
Monday - Friday | 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hours may vary based on the needs of the department.

The Harris County Juvenile Probation Department (HCJPD) provides supervision and services to youth between the ages of 10 and 17, who are under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court. HCJPD is the largest juvenile probation department in Texas with approximately 1,100 employees and over 3,500 youth referred to the department annually. HCJPD programs and services operate under the direction of the Harris County Juvenile Board. The Administration building is located in Downtown Houston, Texas, with several field offices throughout the County and three secure residential facilities.

About the Position:
The Human Resources Specialist shall perform personnel duties, complex and specialized administrative tasks including reviewing job applications from prospective employees, hiring, and interviewing staff, monitoring criminal activity, leave administration, and enforcing Harris County Juvenile Probation Department's policies and practices.
