      The Harris County Public Defender’s Office (PDO) is seeking a Human Resources Assistant to join our office.


      Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Maintain accurate employee records and documentation in accordance with County retention policies.
      • Respond to employee inquiries related to time entry, payroll, and general HR matters.
      • Generate and maintain recurring HR and payroll-related reports.
      • Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes, including scheduling interviews, orientations, and related meetings.
      • Respond to employment verification requests in a timely manner.
      • Distribute weekly HR announcements to internal staff.
      • Support the planning and coordination of employee events (e.g., recognition ceremonies, retirement celebrations).
      • Handle emails, phone calls, and other correspondence promptly and professionally.
      • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
      • Act with integrity, professionalism, and discretion in all interactions.
      • Perform other duties as assigned.

      Education and Experience:

      • High School Diploma.
      • A minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated experience in Human Resources.

      • Experience with PeopleSoft.
      • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

      Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

      • Regular Full-time

      • Monday - Friday | 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.


      Salary:

      • Depends on Qualifications

      • Based on 26 pay periods

        Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
