      Position Overview

      The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as a Human Resources Associate to work at Stateville Correctional Center in the Employee Services Unit. The ideal candidate is energetic, self motivated, task oriented, has excellent organizational skills and shows great attention to detail. This position prepares and submits personnel transactions and documents and answers inquiries. Responsibilities consist of compiling information and data for statistical monthly reports, composing and keyboarding correspondence, maintaining personnel files of a highly confidential nature, and initiating confidential background investigations including employment and personal references, criminal background and drug testing. Duties also include verifying credentials and documentation for leaves of absences and other matters requiring confidential inquiry. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply.       Job Responsibilities

      1. Performs specialist para-professional duties in the preparation and submission of personnel transactions, including but no limited to, appointments, resignations, promotions, suspensions, leaves of absence, transfers, discharges, etc.
      2. Establishes and maintains electronic database of personnel information.
      3. Complies with time limit guidelines regarding the submission of transactions requiring disciplinary action.
      4. Assists other Human Resources (HR) staff in the performance of duties and serves as backup to other HR Associates.
      5. Interprets Personnel Rules, Pay Plan, court mandates, legislative statues as well as other state and Agency rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
      6. Confirms standardized format is used when appropriate, regarding personnel correspondence.
      7. Verifies employment either by phone or mail and confirms compliance as in accordance with personnel rules.
      8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

      Minimum Qualifications

      1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two(2) years of college or satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
      2. Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 30 words per minute.

      Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

      1. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience preparing and submitting personnel transactions.
      2. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience computing continuous service dates, seniority dates and creditable service dates.
      3. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience monitoring and maintaining logs of transactions, evaluations, and employee discipline.
      4. Prefers at least two (20 years of experience interpreting Personnel Rules, Pay Plan, court mandates, legislative statues, personnel regulations, policies, and procedures.
      5. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience following highly confidential personnel guidelines.
      6. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience following office practices and procedures.
      7. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience utilizing composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills.

      Conditions of Employment

      1. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.

      2. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
