      What is the role?

      The Command Corporate Services Unit (CCSU) encompasses diverse teams that provide critical corporate support services to all members within Commands. The current teams within the branch are Human Resources, Finance and Commercial Services and Property and Exhibits (P&E). The teams operate in a collaborative space, maintaining high levels of customer service and providing client focused outcomes.


      We are looking for a highly motivated, skilled, and client-focused professional with experience working in an environment of corporate reform. The Human Resources Team Member plays a key role in delivering day-to-day delivery of HR policy and advice, people analytics and reporting, workforce management and recruitment aligned with their Command Corporate Services Unit (CCSU) service offer.


      This role is responsible for fostering partnerships between the Command Executives, CCSU Leaders and national teams/centres of excellence to solve HR issues through the provision of consistent high quality customer service to stakeholders.


      You will be highly regarded for your contemporary HR capabilities, aptitude for strategic and lateral thinking, and relationship building. You will be an effective communicator and change management advocate and contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the AFP Code of Conduct, AFP Governance Instruments and other regulatory frameworks.

      What will you do?

      As a Human Resources Officer, you perform a variety of HR functions based on the Command’s priorities and operational requirements. Your responsibilities may include the following:

      • Working collaboratively with the People Command, national teams/centres of excellence, and/or other CCSUs to effectively execute HR services for the Command, including the provision of expert advice and support on policies, procedures, applicable legislation, and contemporary HR best practices.
      • Developing and implementing projects, strategies, and initiatives as part of the broader strategic requirements of the Command.
      • Supporting the Command in the development and implementation of local workforce plans, workforce planning, analytics, reports, and projections to inform current and future planning.
      • Providing best practice performance management advice and guidance, including informal and formal processes and practices.
      • Partnering with the AFP’s Recruitment Centre of Excellence to manage end-to-end recruitment activities for the Command including; development of role scopes, role sizing analysis, advice and support on recruitment and selection processes, liaising with Delegates and the Selection Advisory Committees and overseeing completion of recruitment gateways and on boarding.
      • Coordinating and supporting the Command’s Human Resource Committee/s including liaising with Superintendents and other CCSUs on the mobility of staff and secretariat responsibilities.
      • Providing input into all relevant business, strategic and enterprise-wide reporting requirements.
      • Developing contemporary knowledge and subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities aligned with the AFP’s 70:20:10 Model of Learning.
      • Performing a range of office management activities including HR administrative support and responding to enquiries in a timely manner.
      • Maintain currency in subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities outside the formal education process to ensure you are up to date with the impact of changes in Government policy initiative and contribute to appropriate responses.

      Essential Requirements

      • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
      • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
      • Cert IV or similar in Human Resources or other related expertise.
      • 3 or more years’ experience in a HR specialist or similar role.

      Desirable Requirements

      The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:

      • Demonstrated experience in SAP or people management system.
