What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Analyze complex multi-day, multi-specialty documentation for inpatient encounters to assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems
- Collaborate with medical staff to ensure accurate assignment of intricate diagnoses such as malnutrition and sepsis
- Formulate physician queries and monitor bill hold reports, serving as a liaison to the Clinical Documentation Specialist Team and Quality Department
- Utilize knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology to ensure accurate code assignments
- Assist in mentoring and training Coder I, Coder II, and Coder III team members as well as clinical practice students
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum of 3 years of inpatient coding experience
- Required certification: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Required education: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of acute care experience
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Preferred certification: RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) in addition to the required CCS
- Associate degree in Health Information Technology
