What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review and analyze documentation in medical records for accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures
- Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes based on physician documentation
- Adhere to the Standards of Ethical Coding and official coding guidelines
- Ensure compliance with coding standards in an acute care inpatient or outpatient setting
- Utilize coding classification systems effectively for accurate data entry
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior coding experience in ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding in an acute care or outpatient setting
- Certifications such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, or CIRCC to be obtained within 6 months of employment
- Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding classification systems
- Ability to perform repetitive motions including keyboard and mouse usage for data entry
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Associate's degree from an accredited Health Information Technology program or Bachelor's degree from an accredited Health Information Management program
- Familiarity with the 3M encoder and the Epic system
