What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Assign and sequence diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient and outpatient encounters using electronic medical records and encoder software
- Review and validate accuracy of Admission-Discharge-Transfer (ADT) data fields and address coding edits
- Collaborate with leadership for physician clarification on incomplete or ambiguous documentation
- Follow charge verification processes and route accounts based on inaccuracies in outpatient coding
- Maintain coding certification and stay updated on regulatory changes and coding guidelines
What is Required (Qualifications):
- RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, or CPC-H certification is required
- Minimum of 4 years of coding experience in an acute care hospital
- Strong knowledge of coding conventions and CMS Official Guidelines for coding and reporting
- Proficient in navigating electronic medical records and coding software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- BS or AS degree in Health Information Management Administration or Health Information Technician from an accredited program
- Experience in a Level 1 Academic medical center
- Demonstrated ability to optimize coding for reimbursement
- Familiarity with MS Office and basic graphics software
- Experience in performance improvement initiatives
