What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Verify patient insurance coverage and ensure accurate information is secured in the practice management system
- Research accounts to determine correct insurance coverage and resolve unverified accounts
- Contact patients and insurance companies to obtain necessary insurance information
- Update and confirm patients' insurance coverage, including effective and termination dates
- Correct errors in work queues to ensure proper claim filing or refiling of denied claims
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High school diploma or GED certificate
- Minimum of 6 months' experience in a physician billing or third-party payor environment
- Ability to understand and navigate the insurance verification process, including coordination of benefits
- Strong customer service orientation and effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficiency in computer software skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with Epic or other electronic billing systems
- Proficiency in health insurance benefits, eligibility requirements, and obtaining authorizations
- Knowledge of insurance billing requirements, medical terminology, and coding
- Previous experience in an academic healthcare setting
