      Project background

      The USAID funded TRANSFORM: WASH is a 7-year project which is under implementation through a consortium of PSI, SNV, and IRC WASH which is aimed at reducing preventable deaths and illness in Ethiopia due to diarrheal diseases, particularly among children under five.

      Through development and testing of scalable and replicable market-based models, the TRANSFORM WASH project is supporting the Government of Ethiopia (GOE) and the One WASH National Program (OWNP) to increase use of improved WASH products and services among women and their families. This will be achieved through six interrelated project result areas: increased WASH governance and management capacity at the subnational level; increased demand for low-cost quality WASH products and services, with a focus on sanitation; increased supply for low-cost quality WASH products and services, with a focus on sanitation; increased knowledge base to bring WASH innovations to scale; improved access to water for consumption, hygiene, and sanitation use and Improved access to irrigation services for productive use.

      The 18 months Costed Extension will focus on two more results: 1) Increased access to improved drinking water and 2) increased access to small-scale irrigation facilities for drought- and conflict-affected communities.

      Purpose of the job

      The position holder will be responsible to do various tasks like water facilities design and document reviews, preparation of terms of reference, contract document preparations, supervision and monitoring of water resource protection and site improvement plans implementation.

      This post is subject to very frequent field travels (approx. 70%) in different project target woredas. S/he is responsible to work closely with TRANSFORM WASH Project Manager for achieving expected outcomes to systematically disseminate lessons-learned with other USAID-funded WASH activities within SNV and other implementers.

      Job Description

      Key Responsibilities

      • Approves the feasibility studies and validates recommended site selection from an environmental perspective.
      • Design Irrigation and drinking water facilities and services.
      • Designs processes for the development of water resource protection plans at the kebele level (and backstops the teams)
      • Designs processes for site improvement plans (including maintenance and water access) in small-scale irrigation schemes and ponds (and backstops the teams)
      • Advice PM on adjustments needed in the work processes.

      Qualifications

      Basic requirements:

      • BSc. preferred MSc. in Irrigation /water resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and related fields and have skills in Irrigation social organisation, O & M, water management, and water resource development and protection.
      • A minimum of five years’ experiences in Water resources, Irrigation and emergency responses development work and project design and implementation or technical field.

      Additional Information

      Contract Type: National

      Expected start date: As soon as possible

      Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with frequent field travel
