      The salary range for this position is $6,208.33 - $7,083.33 per month ($74,500 - $85,000 per year) depending upon qualifications and is non-negotiable.

      KPBS serves the greater San Diego community with informative, cultural, entertaining and educational television, radio, and digital programming. KPBS TV/FM is the public television and radio station for San Diego. Licensed to San Diego State University, KPBS supports and furthers the university’s educational and community service mission by informing, enlightening and empowering its audience. It does so not only by presenting national and locally produced programming of value to its San Diego audience, but also by producing programming about San Diego and its people for distribution nationwide.

      The Development Division plays a key role in raising awareness of its programming and activities throughout the community. Comprised of six employees, the function of the Development Division at KPBS is to manage and increase all aspects of major gifts, mid-level gifts, planned gifts, endowment gifts, campaign gifts and annual membership at Producers Club to the Station level and above.

      Responsibilities

      The Donor Engagement Manager oversees and supports all aspects of Development team’s work to include major and mini campaign support, staff management, prospect pipeline development and tracking, strategy, task assignment and timeline management. This includes oversight of the Producers Club, operations and budget, donor research, tracking and finance, and administration of gifts for the Division.

      Responsibilities of this position will also include managing a small portfolio of mid-level and lower level PC members, elevating donor engagement and increasing levels of philanthropic support.

      The role will work closely with the Senior Director of Development to cultivate and enhance mid-level and major gift strategies, pipeline development, data analysis, reporting, and budget projections. The position will also partner with external partners to implement mid-level and major donor strategies. To maximize cultivation events and keep frontline gift officers and staff on track, this position manages a master campaign calendar.

      Mid-Level and Major Gifts: (40%)

      • High-level coordination of major and mid-level giving programs; support frontline giving officer(s), data analysis and strategy development, establish strategies to engage and upgrade these donors, and create appropriate donor/prospect portfolios for the frontline fundraising team.
      • Proactively identify new and high-level annual and major gift leads and prospects.
      • Maintain and analyze prospective and upgraded donor data and develop current/prospective donor list data.
      • Produce current and prospective donor profiles and helps determine appropriate solicitation ranges.
      • Lead list management of Major Gifts Team portfolios.
      • Supervise the implementation and maintenance of the new database including production of financial campaign reports and staff assignment reports and tracking of pledges through database management; Ensure that data related to prospects and donors is recorded and tracked in electronic and hard copy files; manage campaign record keeping and evaluate progress towards goals.
      • Manage and track budgets to ensure metrics are achieved.
      • Develop positive relationships with donors, board members, and volunteers and personally solicit major donor prospects and planned giving prospects for annual gifts, as appropriate.
      • Provide council and advice on Development Operations and Producers Club strategies.
      • Manage all stewardship of major donors, including administration of major gifts with the Finance Department, writing reports, tracking and sending renewals, and building relationships with major donors and donor staff.
      • Specialist and primary support for major donors and prospects – calendaring each next step for each major donor, tracking and maintaining scheduled gift dates (expected and received), notes about gifts, pledges and next steps, correspondence, contact reports, contact information, acknowledgement letters and recognition.
      • Write and send acknowledgement letters and correspondence to major donors for General Manager, Chief Development Officer and other frontline fundraisers.
      • Prepare, update, and track contracts for TV, radio and web spots for major donors.
      • Develop relationships with major donors, and communicate information regarding their support, inquiries, and secure premiums as requested.
      • Manage individual major giving prospects who have demonstrated or been identified as having an interest in a major gift or initiative.
      • Serve as a high-level advisor to fund raisers at every level to help support, enhance and coordinate their stewardship efforts.
      • Prepare information materials, agendas and packets for presentations, and major donor meetings and support major donors through in-person meetings and presentations.
      • Complete contact reports and provide activity reports to management.
      • Co-creates and supports the stewardship plan for all $25,000+ gifts.
      • Ensures that the timely, thorough, and transparent tracking and reporting of stewardship activities/data on behalf of both internal and external constituents.
      • Designs individualized stewardship and recognition for special donors giving $100,000+ and ensures timely recognition and communication with said donors.

      Fundraising (30%)

      • Manage a small portfolio of current and prospective mid-level and Producers Club members with planned touch points, prompt thanking and timely solicitations, with a premium placed on donor retention and increased giving.
      • Responsible for developing and achieving revenue goals, as well as forecasting portfolio revenue.
      • Manage relationships with prospective and current members using multiple channels while also engaging donors through consistent stewardship and active cultivation to increase member support, achieve revenue goals and enhance the member experience.
      • Ensures appropriate and consistent donor-centric communications in all materials, such as solicitation, acknowledgement, stewardship and customer service. Participate in writing, editing, image sourcing and content approval.

      Producers Club: (15%)

      • Oversee work with Producers Club Development Coordinator to grow the Producers Club; increasing engagement with existing members, maintaining renewals and developing new members through strategic initiatives.
      • Manage the growth of Moves Management for Producers Club through strategies and tactics, including intra-departmental collaboration and staff support.
      • Establish policies, procedures, plans, goals and budgets.
      • Lead, manage, and mentor staff.
      • Oversee production of monthly newsletter and reports.
      • Follow up to ensure that gifts received are appropriately recognized and meet requirements.
      • Work with various departments and staff to develop on-air recognition spots for radio, TV and the web.

      Operations: (10%)

      • Manage, train, and oversee Development administrative staff.
      • Oversee the process for renewal letters and receipts.
      • Administer Trade agreements for the department and to include tracking usage with Major Gift Officers.
      • Team liaison in digital fundraising strategies.
      • Maximize functionality of department database assets and other software programs to fully utilize each system’s capabilities towards achieving fundraising and development goals.
      • Oversee P-card reports, development budgets, and other operational needs for the department.

      Qualifications

      Knowledge and Abilities

      • Demonstrated professional experience in fundraising with a track record of success, with specific experience with individual giving and/or major gifts.
      • Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed goals.
      • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
      • Knowledge of and passion for KPBS and/or Public Media.
      • Knowledge of major giving and experience in writing gift solicitations.
      • Ability to pay attention to detail, and track and plan donor moves management.
      • Ability to utilize fundraising database software.
      • Ability to create and implement fundraising strategic and marketing plans, and tactics.
      • Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances.
      • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as individuals.
      • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
      • Ability to apply independent judgment, discretion and initiative to address problems and develop solutions.

      Minimum Education/Experience

      • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or additional experience that may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.
      • Three years of development work with measurable results from employment in a non-profit organization with an annual budget.
      • Computer literacy and proficiency in donor databases such as Raisers Edge, Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, Gmail, Internet Explorer, and Social Media.

      Preferred Qualifications & Special Skills

      • Comprehensive fundraising experience preferred.
      • Experience in managing and implementing a comprehensive major gifts program and (managing) charitable contributions.
      • Development work with measurable results from employment in a non-profit organization with an annual budget in excess of $20 million.
      • Knowledge and experience in the following areas: the nature and dimensions of philanthropy, motivations for giving, research and cultivation practices, standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, and development office functions including gift processing, prospect and donor histories, and fundraising reporting.
      • Applicable certificates or advanced degrees in a related field
      • Thorough knowledge of budgeting and tracking.
      • Thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices.
      • Fluency in using standard office software packages.
      • Effective interpersonal skills.
      • Provide excellent customer service skills (both on the telephone and in person).
