What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Conduct legal research and prepare written memoranda for attorney review
- Draft motions, pleadings, and various legal documents
- Represent Dakota County in court hearings as a Law Student Practitioner under attorney supervision
- Collaborate with attorneys and staff to support legal proceedings
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all duties
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Completion of one year of law school by May 18, 2026
- Eligibility for certification under the Supervised Practice Rules by May 18, 2026
- Ability to pass a fingerprint-based background check
- Strong analytical skills to apply facts to applicable law
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience conducting legal research and preparing written memoranda
- Familiarity with drafting motions, pleadings, and other legal documents
- Interest in specific areas of law such as Adult Criminal, Civil, Juvenile Protected Services, or Child Support
