Description
We're looking for an organized, detail-oriented, and experienced paralegal to play an important role on our legal team. You'll draft legal documents such as affidavits, prepare briefs, conduct legal research for trial preparation, and keep case files and other important information neatly organized and easily accessible. Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to:
• Assist attorneys in the preparation and filing of various immigration forms and documents.
• Manage case files from initiation to completion, ensuring all deadlines are met.
• Prepare legal correspondence, including letters to clients and government agencies.
• Collect, organize, and review client information and documents to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Process FOIA requests and manage responses, working with the legal team to address issues or updates to procedures and requirements.
• Assist in the collection and organization of evidence for case filings.
• Maintain an up-to-date and organized filing system for all legal documents.
• Communicate regularly with clients to gather information, convey case updates, and handle other inquiries as needed.
• Handle confidential and sensitive information with the utmost discretion.
• Prepare and process Responses to Evidence (RFEs) as requested by immigration authorities.
• Coordinate with clients to gather necessary documentation and information in response to RFEs.
• Assemble case files and prepare them for review by the legal team.
• Conduct quality assurance checks on all case materials to ensure accuracy and completeness before submission.
• Review case files regularly to identify and rectify any discrepancies or missing documents.
• Provide guidance for delegated tasks to other support staff.
• File immigration court pleadings and supporting documentation in the EOIR portal.
• Aid lawyers in trial preparation by preparing and organizing exhibits, organizing and coordinating witnesses, conducting research on legal articles, and assisting with client meetings and filing motions
• Conduct interviews with clients to gather information about their legal issues
• Perform administrative duties such as answering phone calls and keeping our case filing system organized so all documents are readily accessible
• Arrange law office activity such as drafting subpoenas and coordinating with process servers
• Draft legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence such as interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, complaints, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavits under the guidance of a lawyer
Qualifications
• Associate's or bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a related field preferred; however, candidates with significant relevant experience will also be considered.
• At least 2-5 years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal in an immigration law firm.
• Familiarity with immigration procedures and legal terminology.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills and talent for writing and grammar
• Completion of a nationally-accredited paralegal program strongly preferred
• At least 3 years of experience in legal services under an attorney or lawyer in a law firm setting
• Excellent organizational skills, and time-management skills
• Candidates must have completed an ABA-approved paralegal certificate program such as an Associate's degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor's degree preferredAbout the company
