The Fresno County Public Library invites applications for the position of Library Assistant. Incumbents provide assistance in the use of library materials and programs to the public and provide directed support work to professional librarians; may be responsible for a community library; and perform related work as required.Please note: The current vacancies are part-time and may be limited to a maximum of 20 hours per week. However, the eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both full and part-time positions as vacancies occur. Working hours will vary between 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Applicants must be willing to work various shifts including evening and weekends (including Sundays), and be willing to work and travel between sites as needed.

Education: Completion of thirty (30) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or university system.
Licenses: Possession of a valid Class C driver's license, or equivalent, may be required.
Possession of a valid Class B driver's license, or equivalent, may be required.

Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months, and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.

Positions in this classification are in Medical Group II - Moderate Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require moderate physical effort using arms, legs, back, and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) 10-25 pounds, and occasionally over 25 pounds. Generally, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved.
