      Department Overview:

      MEP brings together the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) and the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in a locally based, nationally relevant, research-practice partnership. MEP joins research and practice by engaging in mutually defined, high-quality, problem-based research that contributes to policy, builds capacity, and strengthens practice. Collaborating on MEP are UW Madison researchers and faculty; MMSD administration, teachers and staff; and stakeholders from the broader Madison community. The partnership enables research to be conducted more quickly and results released more efficiently—to advance strategies that benefit Madison students, families, and schools.

      Schedule:

      Minimum 2 days a week, Monday-Friday
      2-5 hours a day, between 10:30 AM - 5:00 PM which includes 30 minutes to prep for each tutor session, a 30 minute tutoring session, and a 30 minute reflection.
      Monday: 10:30-1:00 PM; 130-330 PM
      Tuesday-Friday: 1030-2:00 PM; 3:00-5:00 PM

      Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

      $17.00

      Qualifications:

      Must be federal Work Study eligible and a currently enrolled UW-Madison student
      Interest in math education or math tutoring
      Must have availability to work a minimum of 2 days a week between 11:45a-4:15p
      Prior tutoring experience is a plus, but not required - comprehensive orientation and training are provided through Madison Metropolitan School District and the Morgridge Center for Public Service.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      Strong written and oral communication skills
      Strong organizational skills
      Prior tutoring experience (not required)
      Ability to effectively communicate sensitivity, respect, and understanding of the needs of diverse students
      Ability to establish and maintain a trusting and positive working relationship with students Ability to be adaptive/flexible in your approach to best support student's individual needs Bilingual (Spanish, Hmong, etc…) is a plus

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

      Program provides math tutoring support (fractions and ratios) to students attending Sherman Middle School, grades 6-8. Tutors will report to the MEP Research Coordinator who will assist in scheduling based on tutor availability and student schedules.

      Tutors MUST complete an MMSD background check, required (asynchronous video) virtual training, and in-person instructional trainings. All onboarding and training tasks are compensated at $17.00 per hour.

      Tutors will be paid for trainings at the hourly rate of $17.

      Job Responsibilities:
      Tutor students to support their success in math (fractions and ratios)
      Continue to engage in professional development by working with classroom teachers and MEP researchers.
      Support students in a fun and professional manner.
      Develop and maintain relationships with students, volunteers, teachers, and other staff. Report to and collaborate with MEP Research Coordinator
      Communicate scheduling conflicts in a timely fashion as needed.
      Complete session reflections.
      Log hours regularly.

      Time Commitment: 8-15 hours per week (including travel time) depending on your availability.

      This position will report directly to MEP's Research Coordinator and will communicate regularly with MMSD staff including classroom teacher.
      The Math Tutor is expected to participate in ongoing tutor training and ongoing support including observations/evaluations.
      Work 1:1 with middle school students to support math learning.
      Maintain communication with MEP Research Coordinator, school site personnel, and teacher.

      Physical Demands:

      Able to attend in person tutor sessions at Sherman Middle School
