Job Description
- Req#: 24002349
- Provide legal advice on new product and feature development, credit card marketing, card member communications, and rewards programs
- Proactively collaborate with other stakeholders including Compliance, Privacy, Risk and Public Affairs/Brand to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and drive efficiencies in the delivery of legal services
- Participate as part of a team of seasoned attorneys and legal managers, offering thought leadership for practice group- and GCO-wide projects
- Provide primary legal support to business groups managing the Card Member Legal Disclosure (“CMLD”) process and billing statements in the United States
- Develop regulatory subject matter expertise, with a particular emphasis on Truth in Lending Act and UDAP
- 3+ years of relevant legal experience
- Bachelor’s degree & J.D.
- Admitted to New York Bar or eligibility to do so
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage and prioritize competing demands while maintaining high attention to detail and meeting deadlines
- Ability to generate creative and innovative solutions to client issues
- Ability to interpret and apply law and regulation in a practical, hands-on, commonsense manner
- Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively, in both written and oral format
- Ability to build trusted relationships and partner with others to drive results
- Capacity to be agile and pivot appropriately when challenged with new information or evolving circumstances
- Strong process-management skills and ability to help identify and implement process enhancements
- Experience in development and marketing of financial products is a plus
- Experience applying UDAP and the Truth in Lending Act is a plus

The Global Commercial Services (GCS) Legal Team is seeking a Manager & Counsel to support the U.S. Small Business Credit Card business. The position will work closely with business clients and legal professionals in the General Counsel’s Organization (GCO) to provide legal advice on a wide range of issues related to American Express’s proprietary and co-brand credit cards.

Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
