- Respond to and manage incidents involving the release or potential release of hazardous materials and environmental contaminants
- Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations, Association of American Railroads (AAR) Interchange Rules, and CSX Transportation (CSXT) operating rules.
- Conduct both internal and external training on the handling of hazardous materials and safe response to railroad incidents.
- Supervise emergency response contractors to ensure safe, cost effective cleanups and restoration of service, manages payment of invoices, report review and agency reporting.
- Provide outreach to communities and customers to enhance emergency preparedness and incident prevention.
- Serve as on-call hazmat officer.
- Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager
- $100,000 - $105,000 annual base salary.
- 20% annual bonus (based on performance) and company vehicle provided.
- Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
- 5 or more years of experience in Hazmat, Emergency Management, Environmental, Safety, or railroad emergency operations.
- Must medically qualify and be able to use SCBA and air purifying respirator and be competent and capable to wear encapsulating chemical protective barrier suits and structural firefighting ensemble
- High School Diploma/GED
- 7 or more years of experience in Hazmat, Emergency Management, Environmental, Safety, or railroad emergency operations
- Must medically qualify and be able to use SCBA and air purifying respirator and be competent and capable to wear encapsulating chemical protective barrier suits and structural firefighting ensemble
- Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
- 10 or more years of experience in Hazmat, Emergency Management, Environmental, Safety, or railroad emergency operations.
- CHMM, CHMP, CSP/ASP, CIH, CEM, or MEP credential
- Hazmat or environmental regulatory knowledge
- Emergency management skills
- Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
- Knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rules and regulations
- Knowledge of Association of American Railroads (AAR) rules
- Public speaking, instructional design and delivery
- Microsoft Office skills
- Available to report to work with two-hour advance notice
- Work in confined spaces at times
- Different shifts as assigned in a 24 hour/7 days a week operation (including working weekends)
- Wear protective equipment (such as welding shields, hard hat, hearing protection)
- Work with equipment that intensifies the heat factor
- Work with hazardous materials on an occasional basis
- Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non-standard work week)
- Work outside in all weather conditions
- Work inside an office environment
- Must be competent and capable to wear specialized personal protective equipment
- 75% travel required
Job Summary
Manages hazardous materials (HazMat) issues, including compliance, training and emergency response, in an assigned territory. Provides customer and community outreach and emergency planning.***Please Note: The location of this position must be in one of the listed cities below supporting CSX Great Lakes Region. Relocation may be applicable.
