      POSITION SUMMARY

      The primary responsibilities of the Safety Manager are to ensure that all safety needs, including training, compliance and follow-up of the New Mexico facilities are being met. The Safety Manager is responsible for compliance with all OSHA, MSHA, federal, state and company regulations. This position is to ensure safe and healthy working conditions are maintained at all times. This position is to proactively support sufficient staffing to safely operate the facility and to ensure that the plant staff is properly trained to complete the required tasks in a safe manner. The Safety Manager will conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times, treating all employees with dignity and respect, and acting as a role model and mentor for all employees. The Safety Manager is also to keep other stakeholders informed through professional communications.

      REGULAR DUTIES

      • Develop and maintain an effective and well-organized safety program that involves all employees.
      • Ensure compliance with all employment laws and company policies.
      • Ensures safe practices and applicable laws and regulations are being followed.
      • Assist managers, supervisors, and employees in addressing any and all safety concerns.
      • Maintain safety and training files to meet all federal, state and company regulations in addition to management information needs.
      • Communicate regulations and company policy to managers, supervisors, and employees.
      • Write directives advising employees of company policy regarding safety, regulation, training and other issues.
      • Implement and manage the Contractor Safety Program.
      • Manage Risk Management Program.
      • Ensure the safety program meets all requirements of MSHA, OSHA, American Gypsum and any other regulatory agency.
      • Coordinate and monitor the safety program in all departments at all locations.
      • Conduct routine safety inspections of all facilities to ensure safe operations.
      • Maintain the written safety program for MSHA and OSHA compliance and ensure all aspects of the written safety program are being followed.
      • Maintain current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) on all products in the plant.
      • Coordinate and conduct effective monthly safety meetings and provide ongoing training as needed, including creating and updating training materials to keep employees engaged.
      • Complete new hire safety orientation and follow up regularly with new hires after orientation to make sure they understand plant safety practices.
      • Properly document and file all plant safety activities, maintaining accurate and complete records.
      • Attend department safety huddles weekly and spend time on the floor observing employee operations and discussing safety with the employees.
      • Assist with the investigation and diagnosis of all accidents and safety issues.
      • Recommend courses of action to the appropriate department heads, implement appropriate and approved corrective measures, and follow-up to ensure completion.
      • Be available to transport employees to medical clinic or hospital as needed.
      • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state, federal, local regulations and company policies regarding safety for all New Mexico facilities.
      • All other duties as assigned.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

      • Bachelor's degree in safety or a related field is desired.
      • Three to five years of safety experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
      • Working knowledge of employment and safety laws.
      • Strong written and spoken communications skills.
      • Ability to make presentations and conduct training sessions for all levels of personnel.
      • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
      • Strong work ethic: ability to serve as a role model to others.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

      • Proficient verbal and written skills.
      • Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
      • Must have manual dexterity needed to type on a computer keyboard.
      • Continued hand/wrist motion is required to operate computers and office machinery.
      • Must be able to read papers and reports without assistance.
      • Exercises sound judgment within assigned responsibilities.
      • Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
      • Presents professional and personable image with a positive attitude.
      • Self-motivated to complete all tasks as assigned, on schedule and in a professional manner.
      • Ability to identify problems within the position and implement practical solutions in a timely manner so that problems do not recur.
      • Physically capable of climbing stairs.
      • Must be available for callouts, including during night shift or weekends.
      • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
      • Occasional travel in a personal or company vehicle is required.
      • Occasional overnight travel via airplane may be required.
      • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
      • Available to attend corporate meetings, which could include out-of-state air travel.

      NEW MEXICO OPERATIONS SPECIFIC DUTIES

      • Audit insurance of all vendors and contractors.
      • Supervise all onsite contractor safety training.
      • Conduct monthly safety and leadership development sessions with plant supervisors and managers.
      • Conduct monthly safety meetings with all hourly employees and develop agendas and training materials for meetings led by supervisors.
      • Conduct monthly Safety Committee meetings to identify areas of excellence and opportunities to improve safety.
      • Maintain plant provided CPR/AED and first aid training certifications.
      • Other administrative reporting duties.

      WORKING CONDITIONS

      • Work is performed mainly in the manufacturing plants and plant offices.
      • Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM or similar if approved by the Plant Manager.
      • Additional hours are required as necessary.
      • Must be available for occasional call-ins after hours and on the weekends to assist with safety or personnel issues.
