      Manager, Station Sustainment

      Position Purpose:

      The Manager, Substation Sustainment is responsible for maintaining Alectra stations in optimal working condition. This position manages the safety, security, and performance of substation assets by supporting Stations capital programs and through the effective development and execution of inspection and maintenance programs. This role provides leadership to a team of Supervisory, field, and support staff in the safe and efficient management of all substation-related assets.

      Responsibilities:

      Technical Leadership

      • Implements and administers a maintenance records system; ensures data collection and addresses annual requirements of the asset condition assessment program
      • Manages Capital projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion within budget
      • Implements Maintenance programs and ensures that annual Stations Inspection and Maintenance programs are effectively executed
      • Provides technical support for new substation design, stations upgrades, and investigations into operational issues

      Strategic Planning and Leadership

      • Develops and maintains a preventative maintenance program for Alectra Transformer and Municipal stations, ensuring equipment integrity and compliance with applicable codes and regulations
      • Recommends Station improvements and enhancements to optimize the safety, security, and performance of Station assets
      • Provides input to annual business plans and budgets and manages resources accordingly
      • Researches, recommends and implements new or enhanced technologies, policies, procedures and processes to improve operational effectiveness

      Compliance and Risk Management

      • Ensures that construction and maintenance activities performed by staff and contractors comply with corporate standards and applicable safety regulations
      • Ensures that construction and maintenance projects and activities performed by staff and contractors comply with prescribed project timelines and budgets
      • Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards

      Relationship Management

      • Liaises with consultants, manufacturers, employees and external authorities
      • Works collaboratively with other departments to ensure a high level of operational performance is maintained

      Resource Management

      • Ensures adequate levels of spare equipment parts are on hand for emergency purposes
      • Provides overall people leadership and direction through coaching, development, performance management and resource planning
      • Ensures efficient resource deployment through the service area, including the maintenance of On-call rosters where applicable

      Safety Leadership

      • Supports and promotes the corporate safety culture
      • Ensures all safety audits, work observations are completed and all incidents are investigated in a timely fashion
      • Performs other duties as assigned

      Education & Specialized Knowledge

      • Bachelor’s degree or College diploma related to Electrical Engineering or recognized equivalent
      • Registered member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) in good standing preferred
      • Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems and substation design and operation
      • Sound knowledge of the Electrical Utility safety rules, Utility Work Protection Code, and other applicable Codes and regulations
      • Knowledge of regulatory and governmental requirements (OEB Rules and Regulations, PIPEDA and OHSA)
      • Knowledge and experience with computerized maintenance management software preferred
      • Proficiency with MS Office applications,

      Experience

      • Minimum 10 years’ experience including at least 5 years of supervisory experience in the electrical distribution industry
      • Experience in maintenance, troubleshooting and testing of high voltage and distribution class electrical equipment
      • Experience in a unionized utility environment an asset

      • Excellent written and presentation skills, with the ability to organize and convey information in a compelling way
      • Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines
      • Strong conflict negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and resolve difficult situations
      • Must hold and maintain a valid class G driver’s license

      Working Conditions

      • Work performed in an environment with occasional exposure to disagreeable or challenging working conditions.
      • Requires occasional field visits to Stations or remote job sites
      • Occasional after-hours response to emergency events
