Enhances and implements best-in-class and innovative stay-at-work and return-to-work practices for all medical conditions (with a focus on mental health), to foster an enhanced People Leader and Employee experience.
Primary contact for any escalated or unique return-to-work/ accommodation needs, providing direct case consultation to People Leaders and Employees in collaboration with and HRBP’s, as well as case management for the most complex situations
Leads a small team of Accommodation Specialists, in an inclusive supportive and flexible work environment that champions the development and well-being of others
Shares knowledge of Sun Life policies, resources, and tools to educate Employees, People Leaders and HR partners on accommodation best practices involving both mental and physical health concerns
Identifies barriers and factors that complicate the stay-at-work, disability leave, or return-to-work processes, understanding the context and any systemic challenges to identify root causes and develop opportunities for improvement
Partners closely with Group Disability (insurance provider) to ensure a seamless consistent Employee journey that optimizes Sun Life programs (i.e. Accommodations, Disability, other types of leaves), through a centralized team
Leverages industry leading knowledge and emerging trends in workplace support, by developing vendor partnerships and processes, so supports are easily accessed and implemented where necessary
Oversees Disability Governance, including partnering with the Group Benefits Account Executive and Group Disability representative (insurance provider), and Benefits and Wellness teams (HR) to ensure disability claims are effectively monitored and managed
Creates, implements, and documents new policies, processes, service standards to ensure Employees are proactively supported
Responsible for outcome measures, that will shape future needs and resourcing with a continuous improvement mindset
Works closely with Senior Consultant, Workplace Mental Health Wellness & Accommodations to build Mental Health Consultation process
Engages with Employee Relations and Legal as required.

Strong presentation skills and comfortable presenting to senior audiences. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Access, Excel & PowerPoint)
Ability to clearly define outcomes while empowering the team to own the ‘how’
Demonstrate a resilient mindset knowing when to push, when to pivot, when to let go
As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide
Subject matter expertise in Disability management or a related field (minimum 5 years)
Extensive knowledge and experience of Workplace Mental Health and Physical accommodations (minimum 5 years)
Experience leading people with a demonstrated track record of coaching, collaboration, and empowering employees to own their roles
Post-secondary education, preferably in a health-related field, or related certification/designation (RRP, CDMP etc.)
Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation and industry best practices related to psychological and occupational health and safety
Excellent knowledge of regulatory requirements on workplace accommodations and related Human Resources policies and procedures

Job Description:
Reporting into the Director of Accommodation & Mental-Being in Total Rewards, the Manager Workplace Accommodations will play a key role in building and sustaining an industry leading Stay-at-Work and Return-to-Work accommodation program. These new and critical Employee programs will be designed to proactively support Employees experiencing an early decline in their well-being, as well as Employee’s returning to work following a disability leave or other leave where support is required.
This role will oversee a small team of Accommodation Specialists that provide expertise and guidance to Employees, People Leaders and HR Business Partners (HRBPs) across a wide range of workplace medical accommodation requests, with the goal of improving our culture of health, and ensuring employees sustain return to work through a fully supported employee experience, rooted in best practice.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
