What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Analyze medical records and assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes
- Enter charges for procedures that are not soft coded and handle complex diagnostic and procedural accounts
- Collaborate with Patient Financial Services to resolve coding questions and assist with appeals
- Review and resolve account checks, denials, and charge review/claim edits daily
- Train new coders on internal coding policies and documentation guidelines
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum of two years of progressive coding experience in an acute care hospital or physician's office, or successful completion of the employer's coding cross-training program
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Registered Health Information Administrator, Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, Certified Coding Specialist, or Certified Outpatient Coder certification required
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with various departments and stakeholders
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Proficient in using coding software, including Computer Assisted Coding (CAC) and 3M encoder
- Knowledge of payer guidelines related to medical necessity and compliance
- Experience with hospital documentation and coding workflows
- Strong research skills and ability to use independent judgment to solve problems
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
