Job Description
- Req#: JR-5380
This position supports a summer research project focused on the refinement and further development of MyPref, a conjoint-analysis based tool designed to quantify adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer patient preferences for future treatments. The Medical Student will join the PCAR Lab within the Department of Supportive Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for a 10-week appointment (5/25 through 8/3) funded through the HMS Office of Scholarly Engagement (OSE) award.
Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS, and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.
As a member of the PCAR study team, the Medical Student will work closely with Principal Investigators and research staff to advance the next phase of the MyPref tool. Responsibilities include conducting literature reviews related to AYA cancer communication and shared decision-making, performing qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis, and contributing to the planning and execution of a design day aimed at reconceptualizing the tool and its clinical application. The student will attend regular lab meetings, collaborate with clinical and research staff, and engage in scholarly activities aligned with their summer research goals. This role offers meaningful exposure to psychosocial oncology research, patient-centered intervention development, and interdisciplinary team science within a supportive oncology setting.
At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong. As relentless as we are in our mission to reduce the burden of cancer for all, we are committed to having faculty and staff who offer multifaceted experiences. Cancer knows no boundaries and when it comes to hiring the most dedicated and compassionate professionals, neither do we. If working in this kind of organization inspires you, we encourage you to apply.
