Reading and participating in discussion forums, answering questions as appropriate, and referring questions to the faculty as needed.
Flagging exemplary posts, posing provocative questions, coordinating with faculty, grading verified assignments, and providing weekly summaries of activities.
Assisting with proctored "exams" or live interviews.
Educational or work experience related to instructional design and technology
Bachelor’s degree
Experience and some fluency with basic software applications such as, but not limited to, MS Office
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
Ability to gain quickly an understanding of UMGC’s edX-related content, work practices, and systems and to adapt as circumstances change
Ability to follow specified technical and administrative procedures
Ability to work independently and efficiently
Master’s Degree
Experience using an online learning platform (e.g., edX, D2L)
Familiarity with intellectual property and Section 508 compliance issues in online education environments
Familiarity with MOOCs

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is seeking MOOC Assistants for its MicroMasters program in Instructional Design and Technology (IDT). This program is delivered on the edX platform and consists of four massive open online courses (MOOCs). The IDT MOOC Assistant contributes to the effective delivery of online education by assisting a course’s instructional team members in tasks such as conducting online classroom setup and quality checks, monitoring discussion forums, and responding to learners’ questions inside the edX learning management system according to UMGC and edX guidelines.
