      Main purpose of role


      To be an ambassador for the Foundation and to lead implementation of the Westminster Foundation’s grant making strategy to provide opportunities for children and young people (0-25 years old). To be responsible for National Grants and to build a National Rural Grants programme, to manage and develop the existing Grant Management team. To engage with key stakeholders from grantees to policymakers to amplify the case for sector-change. Understanding the local needs in the Foundation’s core geographies of target beneficiaries and identifying suitable charities to deliver programmes and services, whilst working collaboratively with other funders to maximise the impact of the WF giving. Using evidence to learn from our grantmaking to inform national debate and influence systemic change.

      Responsibilities

      Grants Strategy:

      • Working closely with Philanthropy Director to develop a Grants Strategy across all grant programmes: Partnership Grants, Fivefield Grants, Small Grants, National Grants and in the future new categories of grants resulting from Strategy Refresh process likely to include: Innovation and Infrastructure Grants.
      • To work closely with the Senior Finance and Operations Managers to plan grants budgets and cashflow projections
      • Performing portfolio level analysis for past, current and future grants
      • Maintaining and creating reports, templates and online application forms
      • Working closely with the Operations Manager to proactively review and consider how to improve systems processes to increase efficiency in grant making wherever possible
      • Working closely with the Operations Manager and Senior Finance Manager to ensure that WF’s grantmaking complies with the Charity Commission requirements at all times.

      National (Rural) Grants

      To develop a National Grants Strategy identifying national charities whose aims and purposes will further the strategic aims of the Foundation and with which the WF might be able to partner over time to generate evidence of what works to influence systemic change.

      Partnership Grant Management:

      To have overall accountability and oversight of the WF Partnership Grantees (recipients of grants of up to £500k over 5 years), to consider portfolio level analysis of impact, efficiency and effectiveness.

      With the WF Westminster Grants Manager to be the point of contact for Partnership Grantees in Westminster (pre- and post-grant award), to deliver the WF Strategy.

      • Understanding the needs of target beneficiaries
      • Researching and identifying suitable charities to partner with
      • Undertake specific research such as: identifying charities that may be suited to WF funding, as well as general issues relevant to the operation of the charity, relevant statistics/reports from external sources.
      • Working with the Director of Communications to plan social media in advance and source engaging content from charities.
      • Offer letter templates – ensure that offer letters and terms and conditions are up to date and fit for purpose
      • Liaise with legal advisers as appropriate

      Stakeholder Engagement:

      Working closely with the Westminster Foundation Director and Senior Communications and Engagement Manager to develop a Stakeholder Engagement Strategy to identify and target priority contacts to build a national network to amplify the voices of grantees and to unlock opportunities for change within the sector and outcomes for WF beneficiaries. To represent the WF on key committees and decision making bodies.

      Systems Change & Policy:

      To work collectively with grantees to establish thematic issues which need addressing at a systems level and with the WF Director to determine strategies to elevate the particular issues through convening high profile thought leadership event and lobbying etc.

      CRM Management:

      To work with Operations Manager to understand full capability of grants database (Salesforce) to improve WF’s grantmaking processes. Oversee the management, maintenance and development of the grants database (Salesforce) to ensure it meets the needs of the Grants Management team.

      Impact Measurement and Learning:

      To work closely with the WF Impact and Evaluation Manager to ensure that we are able to consolidate and communicate our impact at the highest level. To ensure impact measurement is at the heart of our approach and that our strategy is informed and evidence-based, and to work with grantees to collate and verify data to inform grantmaking and enable impact reporting.

      Youth Voice:

      To work closely with Youth Voice Advisor to ensure that WF’s Youth Voice strategy is implemented and that youth voice is central to WF’s grantmaking reflecting the needs of the diverse communities we wish to support by encompassing the distinct perspectives and influence of young people.

      Through incorporating Youth Voice in the Foundation's grant-making activities, to strengthen its insight around the multiple strategic priorities to which its grantees deliver.


      Grosvenor Hart Homes:

      To be the WF lead for London on Project Hart which aims to deliver lasting and scalable social benefit by enabling vulnerable children and young people and their families to access secure homes and related services within supportive communities, and by doing so allowing them to thrive and achieve their potential. Ensuring that communications with stakeholders are co-ordinated, to consider best methods of service delivery.

      General Management Duties

      • To ensure Information Governance responsibilities are fulfilled, including:

      • Delivering their responsibilities in relation to their assigned information assets
      • To ensure Health and Safety responsibilities are fulfilled, including:
      • Responsibility for personal safety and accountability for all staff reporting to this position, including others who may be affected by the organisation’s activities
      • To assume delegated authority to take aversive/proactive action where appropriate to prevent a potential situation escalating to an accident or health and safety failure
      • Ensure all employees and sub-contractors are suitably trained/competent to carry out the prescribed tasks and that the necessary licenses/certificates of competence are in force and appropriate. Ensuring that significant risks and relevant Grosvenor procedures are communicated
      • Plan enough time for work to be done in a healthy and safe way
      • Liaise with Health and Safety representatives for accident/ill-health investigations, carry out training needs analysis and arranging training, plan for and provide suitable and sufficient resources to meet policy requirements
      • Co-operate with Health and Safety Representatives regarding reviewing and providing feedback on health & safety performance both positive and negative, implementing where required disciplinary procedures, carry out and implement risk assessments and controls
      • To complete any other duties as required from time to time

      Essential skills, attributes and values

      • Passion for working to improve life chances of vulnerable children and young people
      • Strong Grant Management experience (minimum of 5 years) ideally with a large funder
      • Collaborative and collegiate with a willingness to contribute to and strengthen a strong team culture to empower team members to lead and develop
      • Articulate and confident presenter and convenor able to bring stakeholders together at the highest levels to unlock problems with strong skills of persuasion.
      • Experience (and aptitude) of building influential networks to effect change
      • Deep understanding of third sector with strong national network of key contacts and experience of working with organisations to support their lobbying for change
      • Innovative and entrepreneurial mindset willingness to flex and respond to challenges
      • Clear strategic thinking, ability to forward plan coupled with understanding of budgeting and the importance of measuring and communicating impact
      • Strong experience of improving processes and procedures in grant management
      • Ideally knowledge and capability with integrating Salesforce processes
      • Experience of commissioning services within a local authority or working closely with local authority helpful but not essential
      • Experience of capital projects/spend out of a fund would be helpful but not essential
      • Reliable with strong work ethics
      • Highly proficient with Microsoft applications including Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
      • Attention to detail and dedication to providing quality, error free work
      • Professionalism, discretion and confidentiality at all times

      Additional information

      The role will require regular travel (c. monthly) to Chester and occasionally (c. annually) to Scotland and Lancashire with other possible travel within the UK.
