      Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000 commensurate with experience

      Position Overview

      The Senior People & Culture Manager will lead and implement human resource operations, ensuring an inclusive, values-aligned, and thriving work culture. As a strategic thought partner to the Executive and Strategy teams, this role drives initiatives across the employee lifecycle — from equitable hiring and onboarding to performance management and staff wellness — while ensuring compliance and organizational alignment.

      Key Responsibilities

      People & Culture Leadership (30%)

      • Foster a culture of equity, belonging, and mutual respect
      • Coordinate onboarding, offboarding, and internal transitions
      • Co-create and manage performance management and feedback systems
      • Develop initiatives that increase trust, engagement, and connectivity among staff
      • Organize retreats, staff appreciations, and internal communications like the “Vibe Check” newsletter
      • Maintain org-wide calendar and shared HR resources
      • Design learning spaces and lead professional development aligned with staff growth and values
      • Develop frameworks for promotions and career advancement to ensure transparent, values-aligned growth opportunities

      HR Operations & Compliance (30%)

      • Manage HRIS and ERM systems (e.g., Gusto, Culture Amp)
      • Ensure compliance with CA and federal labor laws, including for independent contractors
      • Update HR policies and employee handbook in collaboration with legal counsel
      • Support annual reporting and audits as needed
      • Oversee safety training, protocols, and investigations
      • Provide accurate personnel data for budgeting and reporting
      • Supervise 2 team members representing facilities and operations

      Recruitment, Onboarding & Offboarding (15%)

      • Lead inclusive hiring processes, including job design, postings, rubrics, and scheduling
      • Serve as liaison for new hires, ensuring completion of onboarding requirements
      • Automate hiring and onboarding steps via platforms like Asana
      • Create accessible checklists for onboarding and offboarding
      • Partner with hiring managers to develop equitable interview practices and rubrics
      • Manage offer letters and background check processes
      • Draft and manage consultant and employee contracts that reflect roles, expectations, and compliance

      Benefits & Payroll Liaison (10%)

      • Serve as primary contact for PEO/benefits administration
      • Support staff with benefits, leave requests, and life event changes
      • Partner with Finance to ensure payroll accuracy and reporting alignment
      • Serve as liaison for insurance-related matters, supporting staff with enrollment, claims, and coverage questions

      Employee Relations & Support (15%)

      • Serve as a confidential, trusted resource for staff
      • Advise managers on feedback, performance, and progressive discipline
      • Document and manage employee concerns with empathy and professionalism

      Qualifications

      Required:

      • 5–8 years of experience in HR, preferably in nonprofit or arts-based settings
      • Strong working knowledge of CA labor law and multi-state compliance
      • Experience managing ERM systems and updating HR policies
      • Track record of cultivating inclusive and equity-centered workplace culture
      • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
      • Ability to manage projects independently with attention to detail

      Preferred:

      • SHRM-CP, PHR, or relevant certification
      • Experience supporting independent contractors and compliance with AB5
      • Bilingual (Spanish or languages common in Bay Area communities)
      • Passion for youth development, social justice, and the arts
