      The main responsibility of the Director of Vascular Imaging at CVI, Mount Sinai Beth Israel (MSBI) is defining the strategic plan implementing it, and managing the everyday operations of the Vascular Laboratory. In addition, and under the leadership of the Director of the Fellowship Program for the Department, will also be involved with defining the Didactic Curriculum for the Fellowship Training Program in Cardiovascular Disease.

      The Director of Vascular Imaging possesses highly specific technical skills and expertise in the areas of Cerebrovascular, Peripheral Arterial and Venous Diseases. These highly specific technical skills are used to treat vascular diseases with the use of non-invasive technology. In addition to providing direct patient care, the Director of Vascular Imaging is responsible for supervising the technical, educational and daily functions of the on-site and off-site vascular imaging laboratories within the MSBI network. These responsibilities include overseeing the business operations and program development, quality assurance, and responsibility for the technical and educational development of personnel.

      The Director of Vascular Imaging works in concert with the Head of CVI MSBI, the Assistant Head, and the Director of Ambulatory Services to assure that the Vascular Imaging Laboratory operates at the highest standard of patient care and safety that is built on compassion, integrity, respect and clinical excellence. The Director of Vascular Imaging possesses effective interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on attention to detail. S/he functions as an integral team member responding to colleagues’ need for assistance and maintains a partnership approach when interacting with fellow members of the team. He/She will also possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as being an active participant in the field and stays current with new treatment trends.

      Qualifications

      • Board certification with the American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
      • Registered Vascular Technologist
      • Maintains professional memberships
      • Maintains BCLS Certification
      • Minimum of 5 years related clinical work experience performing diagnostic studies and venous procedures
      • Minimum 5 years in a supervisory management and teaching role

      Non-Bargaining Unit, AKR - Phillips Cardiology Practice - USD, Union Square - Downtown

      Responsibilities

      • 1.Non-invasive vascular ultrasound exams which include cerebrovascular evaluation, carotid and trans-cranial duplex, abdominal arterial duplex evaluation, visceral segments, aorta/iliac, mesenteric and renal arteries.
      • 2.Upper and lower extremity arterial duplex mapping, arterial plethysmography, peripheral venous duplex evaluation, i.e., venous mapping and ilio-caval outflow obstruction evaluation.
      • 3.Performs a comprehensive history and physical based on the initial assessment of the Attending, focusing on a patient’s symptoms, risk factors, previous vascular procedures, surgery and how each complaint relates to the non-invasive study to be performed and the preliminary findings based on diagnostic criteria.
      • 4.Performs vascular testing within the Cardiovascular Laboratory, patient bedside and Cath Lab (using portable devices), when necessary.
      • 5.Performs correct annotations, measurements, and calculations according to standardized protocol set forth by the Intersocietal Accreditation Committee and provides the referring physician with “preliminary” findings based on diagnostic criteria, previously identified by the Attending established for each non-invasive vascular procedure.
      • 6.Provides physicians with direct ultrasound guidance when performing venous Radiofrequency ablation procedures.
      • 7.Provides physicians with direct ultrasound guidance when performing venous Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy procedures.
      • 8.Provides physicians with arterial duplex mapping during peripheral atherectomy, angioplasty and stenting procedures.
      • 9.Provides physicians with direct ultrasound guidance when injecting thrombin for pseudoaneurysm occlusion
      • Professional
      • 1.Participates and presents case studies weekly at Fellows Cardiovascular Conference with medical director, department staff, and medical students.
      • 2.Participates in departmental QA Program and clinical research projects.
      • 3.Directly responsible for overseeing the departmental ICAVL accreditation process every three years, as mandated.
      • 4.Remains current on technological advancements and diagnostic trends related to the field of Cardiovascular Ultrasound
      • 5.Maintains professional credentialing and licensure through acquiring recommended continuing medical education.
      • 6.Maintains active membership in professional societies and organizations.
      • 7.Attends related conferences, workshops in order to increase knowledge base in the field of cardiovascular disease and increase the understanding in the development of new procedures as they evolve.
      • Staff Management and Development
      • 1.Is directly responsible for supervising the technical staff. Schedules work assignments according to knowledge base and clinical proficiency of technical staff, with a goal to establish adequate staffing plans. Holds regular staff meetings and keeps employees apprised of all matters relevant to successful job performance; makes employment decisions, establishes performance standards, assesses clinical competency and evaluates employee performance; educates, guides, counsels and develops staff and addresses performance management concerns and technical issues
      • 2.Works in collaboration with the Medical Director in planning both short-term and long-term program development goals
      • 3.Provides education to rotating ultrasound students.
      • Regulatory Compliance
      • 1.Establishes and maintains excellence within the Cardiovascular Laboratory through the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories.
      • 2.Directly oversees quality assurance and related management activities, by ensuring compliance with standardized protocol guidelines set by IAC and adherence to accreditation policies and procedures.
      • 3.Identifies areas in practice that require development in order to adhere to accreditation and reaccreditation policies and procedures.
      • 4.Works in collaboration with management to implement of appropriate billing procedures.
      • 5.Complies with HIPPA policies and standards regarding patient information and medical records.
      • 6.Responsible for the ongoing maintenance and evaluation of diagnostic equipment.
      • 7.Able to identify the use proper body mechanics and maintain ergonomics
      • 8.Is knowledgeable and compliant in all hospital, State and Federal regulatory requirements, including hospital policy and procedures (where applicable to the performance of the job), Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Adhere to all company policies and procedures including those pertinent to HIPAA and OSHA.
      • 9.Maintains competency with all emergency operational procedures, and initiates CPR and emergency measures, as needed. Reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace. Ensures a clean, safe and sanitary environment in the facility at all times.
      • 10.Possesses ability to recognize emergent situations and respond appropriately with the use emergency equipment and utilize universal precautions.
      • 11.Ensures that all aspects of clinical operations are conducted and documented in compliance with relevant internal policies, standards and procedures and applicable regulatory requirements; assesses, on a continuous basis, services, patient outcomes, quality control, family/patient satisfaction, staffing needs and operational effectiveness to ensure optimal care delivery; ensures that internal controls are sufficient to provide for accurate, complete and compliant programs and processes; identifies need for changes in standards, programs and services, and develops recommendations for consideration by the Medical Director.
      • 12.Keeps abreast of changing regulatory requirements/regulation, clinical/professional standards, changing customer demographics and competitive industry practices impacting assigned functions, as well as organizational initiatives/changes with potential to impact current strategies, programs and resources; determines nature/scope of impact on existing activities and determines effective response/solution while maintaining acceptable service levels and work quality.
      • Business Development/Marketing
      • 1.Plans and leads efforts to increase referral base; proactively identifies the most promising opportunities for increasing market share; pursues meetings with physicians or other referral resources to explain and promote MSBI culture, goals, resources and services; keeps abreast of MSBI and competitor trends relative to applicable clinical programs, services and volume; participates in community awareness and vein screening events.
