      Description

      The Harker School, a private TK - 12, located in San Jose, CA, seeks qualified applicants for a full-time, year-round, benefited Photographer & Digital Content Specialist position.

      Estimated annual salary: $82,500 - $95,000

      Position Summary

      The Photographer/Photo Desk Editor has overall responsibility for capturing photographic images of our TK-12 school that capture key events and programs and tell the school’s story for community-building marketing, and archival purposes. This position works closely with all Office of Communication colleagues to meet department goals and deadlines. It also maintains and oversees Harker’s photo database/library. The position requires some evening and weekend work.

      Qualifications


      REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

      • Proven success in capturing both print-quality images and dynamic digital content (both still and video) in a variety of situations, including low light, outdoor and studio.
      • Experience in social media posting, including Instagram and Facebook.
      • Knowledgeable in all facets of image management, including downloading, editing, sizing, retouching and archiving.
      • Mac user proficient in Photoshop and Lightroom
      • Solid understanding of Digital Asset Management for digital photography; familiarity with Photoshelter, our online cloud-based photo database software preferred.
      • Familiarity with filming video, and/or editing in iMovie, Adobe Premiere and/or FinalCut Pro a plus.
      • Comfort and familiarity using personal devices, such as cell phones and tablets, to execute tasks.
      • Education in photography, journalism, marketing or communication studies a plus.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

      The Photographer/Photo Desk Editor’s responsibilities include:

      • Maintaining a comprehensive calendar and coverage plan that ensures successful documentation of school year and summer program activities, including athletics, student performances, donor events, major annual events (such as Harker Day, graduation, student trips, etc.), as well as timely completion of photo assignments for O of C projects, such as social media, online Harker News, twice-yearly magazine, marketing shots for web and print, presentations, print and digital marketing materials and slideshows.
      • Selecting, contracting, and managing suitable freelancers to help cover school events and other photo and database needs.
      • Maintaining and populating Harker’s photo database/library (both internal and for parent photo gallery) for timely retrieval of images. Serving as main point person for parents, faculty or staff who have photo database questions and needs. Supplying database galleries of selects for a variety of department projects.
      • Coordinating seasonal and/or annual shoots, such as individual and team sports photos for Gr. 5-12, faculty and staff headshots, Conservatory program headshots, AP art portfolio shots, etc.
      • Supporting the News & Information Editor and Marketing Manager in getting timely shots for news posts and storytelling shots for social media channels.
      • Maintaining the inventory of all camera equipment, checking gear out to others, as needed, and repairing or replacing equipment.

      Other duties and responsibilities include:

      • In all area(s) of responsibility, staying abreast of industry trends, sharing insights, and making recommendations to assist the department in best meeting the needs of the school and its constituents; upholding best practices, ethics and standards as they best apply to the academic industry.


      All personnel in Harker’s Office of Communication must have the following:

      PHYSICAL ACTIIVITES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

      • Ability to communicate in effective English with staff, outside firms, etc. in person and by telephone.
      • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time and carry needed photo equipment.
      • Ability to hear individuals, groups, telephone and intercom communications, public address announcements, emergency signals, etc.
      • Ability to see and read computer screen and various documents related to assigned activities.
      • Must have sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all office equipment including but not limited to computers, copy machines, modems and telephones.
      • Able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 often.
      • Possess valid California driver’s license and working automobile.
      • Ability to move around and between three campuses and other job sites.
      • Ability to work evenings and weekends, when needed.
