      Introduction

      The Bureau of Security is seeking a Platform Security professional! Reporting to the Chef Information Security Officer, this position leads the way to operationalize security for development and platform teams.

      All employees are expected to live and work in Wisconsin. This position will have the option of working remotely upon agreement of the supervisor but may be asked to come into the office periodically. This schedule may change based on operational needs and organizational requirements.

      Position Summary

      The Platform Security position is a hands-on builder and automation specialist responsible for integrating security into the fabric of the State of Wisconsin's modern technology platforms. Unlike traditional security analyst roles, this position operates within the code, the CI/CD pipeline, and the cloud environment. The primary mission is to operationalize the "Sec" in DevSecOps, making the secure path the default path for development and platform teams. This position performs under general supervision of the Bureau Director of Security (Chief Information Security Officer).

      Working in direct partnership with Cloud Specialists and the Security Architects, this role executes the technical implementation of the State's cybersecurity strategy. The position builds and maintains automated security tooling, testing gates, and guardrails embedded within infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and deployment pipelines. Champion adoption of Policy as Code guardrails to automatically enforce governance and compliance standards. By treating security as a software engineering problem, this role serves as a critical accelerator for delivering secure, compliant, and resilient services, ensuring alignment with NIST, CIS, and State standards.

      Salary Information

      Starting salary for the IS Enterprise Technical Services Specialist (07-33) be between $35.19 - $53.97 hourly. Salary will be determined by applicant qualifications. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

      Job Details

      Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct fingerprinting and background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas and is not an eligible OPT (Optional Practical Training) employer for F-1 international students. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.

      All employees are expected to live and work in Wisconsin. Interviews may be conducted onsite in Madison WI. Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. This topic and any remote work flexibility that may be available will be discussed in more detail in the interview process.

      Qualifications

      Minimally qualified applicants will have the following:
      • Experience with DevSecOps building and maintaining automated security controls within modern CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitLab, Jenkins). Experience must include integrating and managing automated testing tools (SAST, DAST, SCA, container scanning) and secure secrets management to provide immediate feedback to developers.
      • Experience authoring, deploying, and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Bicep) and/or Policy as Code (e.g., Open Policy Agent, Azure Policy) to automatically enforce secure configurations, prevent drift, and provision resources securely by default.
      • Experience securing enterprise public cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP). Experience must include automating Identity and Access Management (IAM) controls, network security groups, and building runbooks for automated vulnerability remediation.
      • Experience in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Go) to build automated workflows, API integrations, and custom security tooling that eliminates manual intervention.
      • Experience operating within an agile, iterative development framework.
      In addition to the minimum requirements, well qualified candidates will have the below:
      • Experience translating federal and state compliance requirements (NIST CSF, RMF, 800-series, CIS Benchmarks, FedRAMP) into automated, repeatable scripts and continuous compliance checks.
      • Hands-on experience securing containerized workloads (Kubernetes, OpenShift), serverless architectures, and/or extending cloud-native security visibility to on-premises environments (e.g., utilizing Azure Arc).
      • Experience with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, Cloud Access Security Brokers (CASB) for SaaS security, and the foundational principles of securing enterprise AI/ML applications.
