      At a glance:

      • Salary range - The budgeted salary range for this role is set at £57,600 - £92,400. We are looking for candidates who are in the range of - £57,600 - £75,000

      • Contract type - Permanent contract

      • Working pattern/flexible working - We know flexible working is important to you, and it is important to us too. The Partnership has adopted a blended working approach meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business. The PMO team aim for around 1 or 2 days a week in the office to connect and on a more ad-hoc basis to attend key meetings but again, are flexible on this.

      • Location - This role is based at our Bracknell/ Victoria, London pending the relocation of the London office to Pimlico during the summer of 2024 after which the normal place of work will become Pimlico, London.

      • Please note, any cost incurred as a result of travel to the office is the responsibility of the successful candidate. There is no travel allowance for this role.

      About the role:

      The PMO team sits within the Change Profession in Transformation Directorate. The profession was set up about 3 years ago to provide centralised teams of expertise in Change Management, Programme & Project Management and PMO (Programme Management Office). Together, we’re responsible for delivering and landing c£500m of projects across the John Lewis Partnership: everything from opening new fulfilment centres to the development of new IT systems, to enabling the growth of our Financial Services offer, to helping us develop into new fields such as Build to Rent - all with the aim of delivering the Partnership Plan.

      The majority of the PMO team, including the successful candidate for this role, spend their time working in programme & project teams and are focused on ensuring efficient and effective programme and project delivery by supporting and constructively challenging delivery activity, providing insight to drive decision making and driving best practice through coaching and assurance.

      The successful candidate will also be expected to play an active part in developing the PMO team’s capabilities while demonstrating the value of PMO within and beyond the Change Profession.

      Your day-to-day remit will depend on your assignment across the wide range of initiatives in the Partnership’s portfolio, but you can expect to be focused on one or more programmes of work - working closely with the relevant programme manager(s) and project managers. You may also play a key role in supporting the governance of one of the Partnership’s Value Streams / Shared Capability Areas

      You will be responsible for making use of and refining agreed delivery frameworks appropriately in the context of your programme and sub-portfolio(s); this is likely to include governance, risk/issue management, financial management, reporting and planning/dependency management as well as continuously developing your PMO team’s ways of working. You should expect to manage a small PMO team day-to-day, and are likely to manage a handful of less experienced PMO Partners.


      Essential Skills & Experience you’ll need:

      • Significant experience of working in a PMO or Portfolio team across complex programmes and projects

      • Very strong stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills.

      • Financial management of project costs & budgets

      • Day-to-day management of a small team

      Desirable Skills you’ll have:

      • Experience of using PPM / Portfolio Management tools, such as Planview

      • Relevant qualification(s) such as P3O, MoP, AIPMO or MSP
