- Understand OMIG’S strategic priorities and provide support in the alignment of the investments team’s goals and objectives.
- Participate in and support the delivery of the investment strategy and objectives, risk appetite, capital objectives etc
- Contribute to the development of investment strategy documents and including ensuring the preparation and monitoring of the investments operating budget
- Participate in the monitoring of goals and objectives and provide recommendations on corrective interventions as needed
- Enforce and support a culture of innovation, accountability, professionalism and delivery.
- Provide inputs in the identification and development of an integrated risk and control framework for all investments operations/activities.
- Communicate and enforce all control requirements including ensuring that investment activities are conducted in line with external and regulatory frameworks, and internal governance frameworks.
- Proactively and continually manage portfolio risks.
- Determine appropriate levels of risk in lien with client appetites, risk preferences, return expectations, market conditions and guided at all times by relevant regulatory and business guidelines
- Manage the risk profile of all portfolios in line with the Investment Policy Statement documents (IPS) and ensure that all mandates have an up to date and well defined IPS documents.
- Participate in the review and update of the investment process, policies and initiatives.
- Drive efficiencies through the adoption of automation.
- Implement strategies and initiatives to enhance investment performance relative to the risk and the investment process (es).
- Use the laid down financial models to forecast/test the robustness of the investment strategy.
- Create balanced portfolios in line with asset allocations provided for in the client IPS documents and provide guidance to assigned team as need be.
- Oversee investment activities on client accounts for assigned portfolios and Portfolio Managers to ensure these are in line with laid down regulatory requirements, company policies and procedures, and guidelines provided by the Risk and Compliance team.
- Monitor close alignment to the Investment strategy and underlying reasons for divergence.
- Monitor investment performance of individual investments and client portfolios to ensure portfolios meet risk return goals.
- Assess portfolios performance relative to benchmarks.
- Ensure full compliance with and keep abreast of all relevant regulatory requirements and guidelines provided by the Risk and Compliance team including investor disclosures, privacy laws, anti-money laundering requirements, anti-fraud measures etc.
- Ensure portfolios adhere to all credit limits outlined.
- Ensure any credit risk assumed is in line with risk appetites.
- Ensure overall return for any assumed credit risk is rewarded adequately.
- Liaise with Research Analysts to gain a better understanding of market conditions, and domestic and global developments that may impact client investments.
- Gather information and carry out research on assigned portfolios and relevant market/ economic information/ trends.
- Participate and support new product development initiatives.
- Meet with clients as per the frequencies outlined in the IPS to confirm investment objectives and confirm that portfolio allocations are in line with expectations.
- Hold regular engagements, meetings, briefings etc. with clients to update them on market conditions and provide updated investment research and economic trends.
- Maintain strong business relationships with assigned clients and continually identify opportunities for portfolio enhancement.
- Liaise with the Operations and Dealing/ Trading teams to ensure all investments related transactions and information is up to date and available to clients and to guide decision making.
- Liaise with and support business development and marketing initiatives to secure new investments/ business.
- Manage relationships with all other relevant internal and external stakeholders such as IT, Risk & Compliance, Finance teams etc.
- Ensure timely, accurate and complete reporting on investments activities internally and externally.
- Evaluate and reports on the performance of investment packages and make relevant adjustments based on client objectives and on-going regulatory requirements.
- Participate in setting and monitoring goals and objectives.
- Mentor and coach the assigned team.
- Drive knowledge management and sharing initiatives.
- And any other business and investment related activities that may be assigned from time to time.
- Knowledge of the Kenya financial services industry and regulatory frameworks.
- Knowledge of various investments concepts such as risk management and compliance, products, asset classes, alternative investments etc.
- Familiarity with investment management systems such as Bloomberg, Refinitiv etc
- Understanding and appreciation of fiduciary responsibility, personal integrity and professionalism.
- Business focus: commercially astute, attuned to regulatory and statutory obligations; understand the local and regional business environment. In tune with business and client priorities.
- Ethical behaviour and business practices: ensures own behaviour and the behaviour of others is consistent with ethical standards and acceptable business practices. Aligned to the values of the business.
- A first degree in relevant subject which may include Finance, Commerce etc.
- Have attained the CFA Charter/CIFA.
- Compliant with the CISI and ICIFA certification requirements.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in investments.
