      The Faculty of Social Science and Humanities seeks a full-time continuing Practicum Coordinator. The Practicum Coordinator is responsible for contributing to the education, career planning and personal growth of Ontario Tech students enrolled in Practicum and Internship courses in the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities. The Practicum Coordinator generates and maintains partnerships with community organizations and prepares students for the placement process through ongoing training, workshops and one-on-one meetings. In this role, you will continually assess and monitor student performance, resolve placement related issues, develop and evaluate experiential programs, and strengthen ties between Ontario Tech and its surrounding communities.

      Responsibilities/accountabilities:

      Administrative

      • Assist in the development of policies and procedures to outline placement requirements and student/employer responsibilities
      • Assist with the maintenance of the Practicum and Internship databases
      • Update, maintain and verify evaluative data for the purpose of program review and reporting
      • Create and update materials for students and community partners, including handbooks, information packages, and insurance forms

      Student Support

      • Contribute to the educational, professional and personal growth of participating students by helping them explore career options, develop job search skills, secure rewarding experiential learning opportunities and gain marketable employment skills
      • Participate in the design and implementation of pre-placement activities and workshops on topics including cover letters, job search methods, interview preparation, ethical conduct in the workplace and appropriate work habits
      • Work with students to secure placement opportunities appropriate to their goals and program objectives
      • Monitor student progress during the placement experience through site-visits, evaluations and regular contact (in-person, telephone and email)
      • Provide mediation and guidance to students to help resolve placement related issues

      Outreach and Development

      • Develop appropriate partnership opportunities that meet the needs of various courses in the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, including the fourth-year Practicum and Internship
      • Conduct outreach and marketing visits, and email or direct-mail campaigns with potential and existing placement organizations, including presentations and one-on-one meetings
      • Formulate collaborative projects/programs that simultaneously serve community needs and meet curricular objectives
      • Serve on a variety of faculty, institutional, and community working groups
      • Collaborate with a variety of Ontario Tech offices including, but not limited to: Career Services, Risk Management, Academic Advising, External Relations & Partnerships, and Communications and Marketing

      Required Skills:

      • Well developed written and oral communication skills, and strong presentation, organizational and time management skills.
      • Experience working and/or volunteering with non-profits, NGOs, and social service organizations
      • Superior interpersonal skills with an ability to connect with a diverse range of personalities and perspectives
      • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills
      • Able to manage multiple projects and priorities
      • Knowledge of cultural competency and diversity
      • A demonstrated knowledge of experiential learning theory and career preparedness

      Required Education:

      • Completion of post-secondary education of Three Academic Years or equivalent combination of education and experience.

      * Verification of Academic credentials may be required

      Required Experience:

      • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a post-secondary environment. Frontline experience with students is preferred
