      Position Summary
      This position has overall responsibility for overseeing the purchasing of all packaging materials for the winegrowing operation at Wente Vineyards. This position has the ability to oversee purchases companywide (Wente Family Estates), which may include purchases for other facilities such as the tasting room(s), restaurant(s), catering facilities, golf course, etc. This position will interact with all levels of management. Additionally, this role is responsible for the management and execution of the Product Realization process.

      Essential Functions
      Strategic Supplier Management
      • Procurement & supply management of bottling, winemaking, and other supplies.
      • Lead negotiations with suppliers.
      • Supplier Management (qualification, performance, capabilities, etc.).
      • Ensure supplier agreements are met regarding delivery, price, and quality.
      • In consultation with executive leadership, create and publish performance metrics that sustain and the business while improving quality, service and cost.
      • Support of annual Certified Sustainable Winegrowing Association (CSWA) certification.
      • Issues monthly forecast and rolling 12 forecasts as applicable to strategic suppliers.

      Procurement Process Management
      • Manage the purchase order process, including blanket and long-term purchase agreements.
      • Ability to work closely with the Supply Chain planning team on efficiently and effectively matching supply needs with demand.
      • Management of all situations where inventory levels don’t properly match the expected demand and generate appropriate actions
      • Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Operating Work Instructions (OWI)
      • Lead & document cost reduction and/or quality enhancement activities.
      • Collaborate and oversee reconciliation of billing discrepancies in accounting system.
      • Support economic sustainability by staying within budget.
      • Work with IT and finance resources to develop new tools to efficiently and more effectively review demand and supply matching, including but not limited to the Purchasing Requisition System and Power BI.
      • SharePoint Administrator for Procurement and Contract sites.
      • Oversee document libraries on SharePoint, including Labels, Purchase Orders, KDs, Glass Molds, Contracts, and Proof Approvals.

      Contract Management
      • Reviews all incoming Supplier contracts for accuracy and compliance, and routes according to the company’s Signature Authority Matrix as needed.
      • Lead Contract Management process
      • Works with company legal counsel as needed regarding legal questions and contract templates.
      • Maintain and update the Winegrowing Contract Templates with Document Control as needed.

      New Product Development and Management
      • Assist with New Product Introduction & SKU rationalization efforts by combining market requirements, technological capabilities, and resources to define new product designs and the requisite manufacturing and field support processes.

      Physical Demands/Qualifications
      • Must be able to ascend/descend ladders and stairs.
      • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
      • Requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time throughout the workday.
      • Manual dexterity and the ability to operate a computer for long periods of time without experiencing abnormal hand, wrist, or eye strain.
      • Must have coordination sufficient to operate various office machines/computer.

      Non-Physical Demands/Qualifications
      • BS Degree or BA Degree in related field or equivalent experience.
      • Minimum 5 years’ related experience as a Buyer or Purchasing Manager
      • Experience in Wine or CPG industries preferred.
      • Ability to lead negotiations on behalf of the organization to deliver on desired outcomes.
      • Ability to resolve conflicts and build relationships with suppliers.
      • Strong organizational and communication skills.
      • Ability to facilitate group meetings, problem solving sessions, and cross-functional projects.
      • Experience with ERP systems.
      • Experience with Lean Six Sigma a plus.
      • Inventory Management experience.
      • Ability to guide the formalization of purchasing best practices, including supplier management.
      • Leadership experience, including being able to manage and motivate a team.
      • Previous Contract Management experience desired.
      • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
      • CPP, CPSM or other certification equivalent from accredited association.

      Environmental Conditions
      The environment within the winery is subject to extremes of temperature and humidity. Working outdoors all day at times and in various parts of the winery subjecting the incumbent to variations in temperature and humidity.
