- Drive growth initiatives through new product development
- Leading major new product projects from conceptualization through to commercialization/New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Broad use and application of material and engineering principles, concepts, theories and techniques to solve problems related to product development, manufacturing, and design.
- Working with multi-disciplinary teams to develop new materials and constructions for optical solutions
- Designing and conducting experiments to validate product performance, including design and prototyping of concepts for rapid verification.
- Organize and participate in laboratory and pilot plant level experiments
- Staying current on the latest technology and techniques
- Generating intellectual property positions, including invention submissions, patents and 3M trade secrets.
- Contributing to the strategic direction with alignment of division business objects
- Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
- Minimum five (5) years of optical product development laboratory experience in a private, public, government or military environment
- Master’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or other science discipline from an accredited institution
- Demonstrated experience successfully developing and commercializing products utilizing a range of technologies and processes
- Possess excellent technical judgment and able to set logical action plan for design challenge and technical problem resolution
- Knowledge of optical films, resins, prisms, and an understanding of their processing methods
- Experience working with optical resins, micro-replication, diffusers, UV curing, lamination, and processing/manufacturing
- Strong aptitude in optic fundamentals
- Self-starter with strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills (oral, written and presentation)
- Results driven and self-motivated, with a growth mindset
- Strong background in Design of Experiments (DOE)
- Strong multi-tasking ski, team building and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Outlook and SharePoint

The person hired for the position of Product Development Specialist will contribute and coordinate complex technical projects developing new optical solutions. The ideal candidate will be an experience in traditional solvent coating, 100% solids coating, optical resins, UV curing, and will interface with the lab, BSC and manufacturing. We’re looking for a person who is collaborative and a great communicator, has excellent judgment, and can perform in a fast-paced, growing, global business.
