      SALARY: $48,093

      Minimum Qualifications:

      High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training in broadcast journalism, photography, film studies, television production, or a related field; supplemented by two years of experience in video production, broadcasting, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

      Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.

      Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position. Requires skill in the technical and creative art of videography, television production, and audio/video editing. Requires knowledge of complex production and editing equipment, system, and software.

      EXAMINATION:

      The examination will consist of a review of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education and experience as listed to be rated as eligible. If selected, an official, accredited college transcript is required, at time of employment, for all degrees/course work used to qualify for this position.

      Purpose of Classification:

      The purpose of this classification is to serve as a videographer, editor, and production assistant for studio and on-location television segments for Fulton County's television station, FGTV. Work includes production planning and set up, operating and adjusting production equipment; capturing audio and video of events and programs; reporting/interviewing; audio/video editing; and administrative functions that support production. Production Assistant is distinguished from Producer/Reporter in that the former works assigned projects, performing technical production work with an emphasis on operating cameras and equipment, whereas the Producer/Reporter selects, writes, produces, and reports stories and segments for television.

      Production Assistants may perform a variety of production work, but typically specialize in one area, such as videography, editing, or beginning technical production assistance.

      Essential Functions:

      The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

      Videographs events, stories, interviews, meetings, promotions, public service announcements, and programs both on location and in a studio: reviews assignments to ensure needed content is fully captured; follows scripts and production shoot instructions; determines optimum angles, filters, lighting, and zoom to compose shots; and captures video on tape or for live broadcast.

      Operates a variety of audio and video production equipment and technology: transports, sets-up, checks, and tests cameras, lighting, microphones, and related equipment; operates field and studio cameras; operates teleprompters, consoles, and other production equipment; microphones guests; and makes adjustments to equipment.

      Arranges and edits audio and video content to create finished packages and programs: acquires, digitizes, and imports content; edits elements together using audio and video editing systems to create entertaining, informative, and technically compliant programs; creates and incorporates graphics, effects, and animation; makes audio corrections; records voice-overs; exports finished products to tape or digital files; and creates and duplicates copies of media.

      Plans, sets-up, and produces video segments: sets-up and stages the studio or location with appropriate equipment, lighting, set pieces, props, and backgrounds; instructs guests or talent; conducts interviews; and writes story scripts.

      Performs minor equipment maintenance; arranges for equipment repair and maintenance as necessary; ensures video gear is properly cared for, accounted for, and adequately stored for future use.

      Maintains media library and inventory: labels, records, and shelves media properly; locates and retrieves media; creates compilation reels for archival; and inventories, restocks, and recycles media supplies.

      Performs administrative tasks to support production: schedules and coordinates shoots and interviews; and maintains logs, records, and assignment calendars.

      Operates or uses various equipment, tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains television production equipment and motor vehicles; operates computers to enter data, research information, and compile and edit video, utilizing spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, and specialized editing software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

      Communicates with supervisor, producers/writers, editors, talent/guests, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

      Additional Functions:

      Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.

      Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
