05/31/2024 Assists school site leaders in analyzing, interpreting, and using school data for planning and school improvement by collecting student data, disaggregating student data, interpreting and analyzing data, determining strengths and weaknesses, reporting findings, and developing improvement plans.
Serves as communication liaison between departments
Determines professional development needs of instructional and non-instructional support employees through observations, conferences, needs assessments, and the supervisors of such persons.
Reviews teacher and paraprofessional prescription plans and conducts professional development activities that ensure meeting the definition of highly qualified.
Plans with principals, supervisors, and other professionals in scheduling, designing, and organizing for in-service activities.
Designs, develops, plans, and presents in-service training.
Designs, develops, plans, and presents in-service training for working effectively with parents and families.
Responds to specialized requests from administrators, teachers, and support personnel.
Researches and develops materials for in-service sessions.
Coordinates curriculum/support in-service at the school level.
Becomes knowledgeable about school-based improvement through professional development.
Assists in planning with colleges and universities for course offerings and credit, as is needed by East Baton Rouge Parish personnel for professional development needs.
Plans, conducts needs assessment, and selects proper strategies for a given professional development initiative.
Assists with the coordination of in-service programs for new employees
Conceives plans and/or presents in-service programs.
Assists in the evaluation of professional development offerings
Participates in grant writing for professional development and other available projects.
Designs special programs for employees in professional assistance and assists in the supervision and evaluation of the employees performance through that program.
Keeps abreast of current educational trends by reading professional journals and by attending professional meetings
Plans and coordinates professional development needs of East Baton Rouge Parish as related to the State Department of Education (assessment, etc.).
Completes training to become a qualified assessor/mentor trainer
Understands the nature of the adult learner and of adult learning and is able to apply these principles to professional development conditions.
Participates in professional growth opportunities to continue to develop their own skills and knowledge.

Summary: The Professional Development Specialist develops and coordinates activities, initiatives, and programs for professional development and employee retention.

Essential Functions/Qualifications/Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in administration and documented successful experience as a teacher. Should satisfy Louisiana State requirements for a teaching certificate. Experience in professional development, administration and successful instructional strategies preferred.
