Fuelled by great people whose expertise and creativity sets the standards in our industry, we’re inspired by the opportunities to innovate and break boundaries. We’re proud to play a part in protecting the world’s democracies. And we’re committed to putting sustainability at the centre of everything we do, opening up and protecting our planet. With over 15,000 employees across 41 manufacturing sites in 13 countries we serve over 90% of the world’s aircraft and engine manufacturers. There are no limits to where you can take your career.

      Job Summary

GKN’s Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Filton, Bristol is a £32m state of the art technology research and manufacturing process development facility which is a hub for world-class innovative technology for the next generation of fuel-efficient aircraft. It includes a collaborative space for research and development with universities, the UK’s CATAPULT network and GKN Aerospace’s UK supply chain, to help strengthen aerospace technology and support the UK’s Industrial strategy. We are seeking to recruit a Principal Research Specialist to develop Cryogenic fuel systems and components for hydrogen-fuelled aircraft whilst providing technical leadership in this field. You will generate system, sub-system and component level designs for the transfer and control of hydrogen (as both liquid and gas) from storage (cryogenic tank) to where it is consumed (e.g. fuel cell).

As a key part of its sustainability agenda GKN Aerospace is making significant investments in the development of hydrogen based electrical propulsion systems. In delivering an important element of that agenda, GKN has partnered with a series or Tier 1 aerospace companies to deliver a Liquid Hydrogen Fuel System. This is a full time role, GKN fully embraced the principles of Hybrid working. Recognising the team leadership requirements of the role, it is expected that we require presence in the UK GTC 2-3 days per week.
