      He angitūtanga: The opportunity

      We’re looking for a Park Ranger with a passion for recreation, conservation, people, and cultural heritage. This role will play a key part in the maintenance and management of the track network in the Hunua Ranges and several other parks in the Southern Sector, protecting areas of Kauri forest. You will also support all other Park Ranger duties with regular opportunities to broaden your work programme and upskill.

      In this role, you’ll be primarily hands-on with the physical task of maintaining walking and mountain biking tracks, building structures, operating powered machinery and using hand tools. You will be part of planning and overseeing relevant upgrade projects, including contractor management. You will work with other park rangers and support them in conservation projects.

      You’ll also contribute to other aspects of the kauri dieback programme that aims to prevent the spread of kauri dieback disease and help protect our natural and cultural heritage. You will be required to work throughout the Southern Sector Parks network from time to time.

      He kōrero mōu: About you

      The ideal candidate will bring experience, knowledge and genuine interest in track and structure construction and maintenance, especially within the parks and conservation sector. The ability to undertake planning and delivery aspects of a project and GIS skills are highly desirable. However, we would be open to someone with the right attitude and aptitude willing to learn and develop in this role, with demonstration you have the capacity to upskill with your current background and knowledge.

      You’ll need to be a great communicator, team-player, be able to work off your own initiative, and have a passion for working outdoors. A background in areas such as asset management, maintenance, recreation, or conservation fields is highly sought after. Qualifications in ecological, environmental, or parks management disciplines are highly desirable, as well as competency in various machinery and equipment operation. Full training is provided where needed.

      Due to the nature of this role, an excellent level of physical fitness and overall health is critical. A current NZ full driver's licence and ability to drive manual transmission is also required for this position.
