      Position Overview:

      As a Research and Development Design Engineer with DigiKey, you will have a lead role in small to medium scope and complexity R&D projects and/or upgrades. You will also have a strong supporting role in larger capacity expansions and system redesigns. The Research and Development Design Engineer leverages engineering first principles and design tools to create designs for DigiKey Electronics Research and Development projects in the Product distribution center and other areas of the business.

      This is an essential onsite role. Regular onsite attendance at DigiKey’s headquarters in Thief River Falls, MN is required.

      Responsibilities:

      • Design and deliver components ; p rovide documentation, training and basic support.
      • Use CAD and/or 3D tools to d esign mechanical systems and/or controls, electrical systems and firmware including documentation and training.
      • Work with DigiKey and 3rd party teams to lead areas of system installations and testing.
      • Be the Subject Matter Expert on designs for which you are responsible.
      • Understand manufacturability and reliability concepts.
      • Support the process to bring viable R&D projects into production.
      • Do prototyping and design Proof of Concept.
      • Participate on a design team and also individually to meet business needs for the R&D team, and know the capabilities of the areas of design for which you are responsible.
      • Follow engineering first principles in equipment and process design.
      • Provide support for medium to complex issues , including design knowledge and expertise to support operations, engineering and maintenance and training.
      • Collaborate with Senior and Principal Engineers, Software Engineers and end users with a majority of time spent designing, integrating and delivering systems or controls.
      • Design and implement solutions to support overall system requirements.
      • Participate in projects . Support project deliverables with necessary documentation, configuration, programming, etc.
      • Must have demonstrate knowledge and troubleshooting abilit y; s eek guidance from senior staff and p rovide assistance to junior staff when needed.
      • Understand the business function related to overall systems.

      Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

      • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar area of study.
      • Experience reading or writing microcontroller firmware in C.
      • 0-5 years of experience.

      Physical Requirements:

      • Generally, spend the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices, such as, but not limited to keyboard, mouse and screen.
      • Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body.
