      Job Description

      The Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition (MET) has an outstanding opportunity for a temporary Research Scientist/Engineer 1 position to support studies within the Cirulli Laboratory.

      The field of research this position is engaged in is Vascular Biology and Transplantation. The Research Scientist will support the Cirulli Laboratory by conducting experiments in mice and performing cellular and molecular biology assays for studies in diabetes.

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      Animal work:
      • Mice work: tailing, genotyping, injections, and blood sampling
      • Handling, breeding, and monitoring mice
      • Dissecting mice and organ preparation for microscopy and immunohistochemistry


      Experiment and Assay Development:
      • Preparation of genomic DNA and PCR
      • Protein extraction and gel electrophoresis


      Tissue Preparation and Processing:
      • Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence techniques
      • Standard sterile tissue culture techniques


      Other Duties:
      • Administrative duties, including but not limited to purchasing, maintaining inventory, data entry, and filing
      • Keep careful and accurate laboratory records
      • Maintain laboratory equipment


      MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
      • Bachelor's degree in science, technology, or a related field and at least one year of laboratory experience that includes mice work.


      Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

      Additional Requirements:
      • Must be willing to work with experimental animals, and master techniques of molecular biology (PCR and qPCR) for genotyping mouse models, and maintain colony of transgenic and KO mice.
      • Proficiency in techniques of immunohistochemistry and morphometric analysis of tissues harvested from mouse models.


      DESIRED REQUIREMENTS
      • Prior experience working with basic cell and molecular biology.
      • Hard working and motivated, with excellent organizational skills and record-keeping of experimental procedures.
      • Prior experience with sterile culture conditions for the propagation and use of cell lines in vitro.

      $27.14 hourly

      $35.00 hourly
