      Purpose

      Established in 1986, City in the Community is the registered charity of Manchester City and exists to empower healthier lives through football. Reaching 20,000 people each season, programmes place physical and mental wellbeing at their core, whist also creating healthy futures and healthy communities.

      The purpose of this role is to drive safeguarding standards across City in the Community, acting as a central point for all safeguarding related matters in the team. The role serves as proactive liaison between the charity and the parent club leading a consistent approach to CFG’s Safeguarding framework, Safe at City, and ensuring it is upheld and integrated across CITC activities and workforce.

      Accountabilities

      1. To ensure the application of the Safe at City safeguarding framework that promotes and protects the rights of children, young people and adults at risk who come into contact with CITC.
      2. To provide specialist support to programme managers and first line management across CITC ensuring awareness, understanding and application of safeguarding principles, regulations and practice
      3. To design and deliver a relevant annual training framework, ensuring all members of the workforce understand their obligations in safeguarding vulnerable people and that both formal, informal and wider CPD opportunities are made available for all.
      4. To increase visibility and awareness of safeguarding through a calendar of safeguarding campaigns, utilising internal and external stakeholders to manage and deliver activities. To generate opportunities where voices of children, young people and adults at risk exist and other stakeholders are heard in decisions that affect them.
      5. To ensure that all CITC operations are compliant with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements (statutory and non-statutory) and manage safeguarding audits and reviews across CITC liaising with internal and external auditors.
      6. To case manage all safeguarding concerns and allegations within CITC linking in with wider stakeholders where necessary. Act as lead case manager to investigate/co-ordinate allegations of poor practice and/or the external referral of any concerns that meet the appropriate thresholds.

      Knowledge, Skills and Experience

      Essential

      • A professional background in child rights, welfare or safeguarding-related work.
      • In depth knowledge of children’s social care systems and contemporary safeguarding practice and the relevant legislation and regulation in those fields.
      • A person-centred approach and the ability to maintain this perspective.
      • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build meaningful, strong relationships with stakeholders across all levels
      • Comprehensive experience of case management.
      • Experience of conducting or leading investigations of a sensitive nature.
      • Experience of writing reports and compiling case file information.
      • Sound experience of designing and delivering training to groups across levels.
      • Proficient IT skills with experience of online systems for both data processing and storage including Microsoft Office.
      • Expert-level handling of sensitive data in accordance with data protection regulations.
      • Ability to work independently and proactively.
      • Resilient and adaptable to change.
      • Evidence of ongoing professional development in safeguarding, welfare, criminal or care sector.

      Desirable

      • Relevant qualifications and training in social care-related areas and/or safeguarding.
      • Working knowledge and understanding of inclusion, equality and anti-discrimination legislation, policy and practice.
      • Knowledge of sports coaching principles and practice and with community cohesion/inclusion projects.
