- Supervises Director of Development Administration who oversees the Development Associates Team
- Serves as a liaison to the office of the CDO, Hospital leadership and external stakeholders; serves as trusted senior advisor to the VP of Development
- Serves as a proxy for the VP of Development, manages external communication for the VP of Development, and trouble-shoots issues and problems
- Works closely with the VP of Development to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the Hospital
- Works with the CDO Team and Development Leadership Team to ensure office-wide procedures, protocols, and policies are relevant and effective
- Principally responsible for coordinating and monitoring long-term organizational strategy and integration with the Hospital’s priorities and strategic plan relevant to Development activities
- Supports administrative, strategic and organizational needs, direction and expectations for the Hospital and Foundation
- Supports the VP of Development’s work and relationship with the Foundation Board of Advisors and related committees; supports the development objectives and requests of the Hospital’s Board of Trustees
- Oversees staff meetings, including agenda setting, meeting logistics and communications with meeting guests and speakers
- Works closely with Executives Offices, particularly the offices of the CEO, COO and CFO as needed
- Communication
- Conducts background research and prepares or manages preparation of speeches, briefings, presentations, and talking points for the VP of Development, senior CHOP leaders, and others on an array of topics and for a range of constituents
- Prepares correspondence as needed for internal and external meetings
- Reviews and approves as needed and/or requested CDO and CEO, correspondence including internal and external publications, letters, website and social media materials, blogs, and newsletters
- Ensures information flow to and from Foundation and Executive Office via all types of platforms– forums, correspondence, speeches, public events, etc.
- Special Projects/Presentations Oversight
- Independently leads, manages and drives special projects, presentations, or programs that vary in nature, scope and size
- Suggests or recommends as needed projects/initiatives that support strategic or operational objectives
- Prepares and/or contributes to the preparation of reports, briefings and presentations
- Meeting Preparation and Facilitation
- Works with administrative support staff to ensure accuracy, coordination and prioritization of the VP of Development’s calendar
- Ensures briefing materials and backgrounders are prepared; assists with meeting follow-up; assists with and monitors progress and next steps
- If requested, acts as the VP of Development’s primary representative internally in meetings and committees; acts as Foundation’s ambassador to external constituents
- Bachelor's Degree Required
- Master's Degree Preferred
- At least seven (7) years Minimum 7 years working in healthcare, academic, or nonprofit environment in a senior position, preferably experience serving in a chief of staff or administrative leadership role Required and
- Experience managing a large team in a complex non-profit, healthcare or development office Required
- Creative and results driven thinker, excellent problem solver and strong interpersonal savvy (Required proficiency)
- Highly developed communications skills (written and verbal) along with a communication style that is open, cordial, and persuasive (Required proficiency)
- Organizational and political agility and mature judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information (Required proficiency)
- Experience in developing, implementing, and monitoring strategic plans to address current and future needs, as well as reporting on progress to senior administrative leaders and board members (Required proficiency)

About the Job
The Senior Director & Special Advisor for Development is a trusted senior advisor to the Vice President of Development and manages a wide variety of administrative and executive responsibilities working with both internal and external stakeholders including hospital leadership, board members, donors, and other external constituents such as vendors, contractors and hospital friends. The Special Advisor reports to the Vice President of Development enabling the VP to focus on growing the Foundation's philanthropic revenue, leading the Development team to maximize impact, and engaging and building relationships across the enterprise, members of the Foundation Board of Advisors, and Foundation team members. The Special Advisor is responsible for the following: strategically coordinating the VP of Development's development-related activities and communications working closely with the Foundation team; coordinating and monitoring long-term organizational strategy and annual operating plans for all Development programs, integrating with the Foundation and Hospital's priorities and strategic plan; managing and leading internal functions and meetings; coordinating VP of Development correspondence, events and activities; and handling questions, issues and requests on the VP of Development's behalf with support by the Executive Assistant to the VP of Development. This position helps to ensure that the executive management of the Foundation operates effectively, efficiently and smoothly. The Special Advisor will also collaborate on a regular basis with the Assistant Vice President and Strategic Advisor to the Chief Development Officer from the CDO Team as well as members of the Development Leadership Team consisting of the Associate Vice President for Institutional and Events Fundraising, Associate Vice President for Individual Giving, Assistant Vice President for Board and Volunteer Relations, Executive Director for Hospital Relations, Executive Director for Campaigns and Strategic Initiatives, and the Managing Director for International Development to assist in providing strategic oversight and direction to the development programs of the Foundation.
