      The Senior Director, Compliance & Ethics (“Senior Director”) is responsible for enhancing the compliance and privacy programs within McKesson’s U.S. Pharmaceutical Solutions & Services Practice Management business, including The US Oncology Network (USON). The Senior Director will report directly to McKesson’s Vice President, Compliance & Ethics, Practice Management (within McKesson’s General Counsel Organization). The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of, and have significant experience in, all elements of corporate compliance and privacy in relationship to healthcare delivery. He or she will have broad familiarity with the laws and regulations governing the activities of health care providers, as well as a strong executive presence and the demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with large teams consisting of business, legal, compliance, internal audit, human resources, and operational colleagues in a highly matrixed environment.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Collaborates with the Vice President, Compliance & Ethics, Practice Management in the overall design, implementation, and development of an effective compliance and privacy program for the Business.

      • Assists the Vice President, Compliance & Ethics, Practice Management in conducting relevant compliance and privacy risk assessments and developing risk-based compliance and privacy workplans for the Business.

      • Assists the Vice President, Compliance & Ethics, Practice Management in conducting compliance assessments of proposed and current business initiatives and working with the legal department to design, implement, and monitor compliance internal controls to manage risk.

      • Assists the Vice President, Compliance & Ethics, Practice Management in participating in internal audits of Practice Management related to compliance risk areas.

      • Assists the Vice President, Compliance & Ethics, Practice Management in conducting investigations and required reporting of perceived non-compliance for compliance and privacy program matters, including responsibility for monitoring the compliance and privacy reporting systems, and provide recommendations regarding necessary controls to prevent further non-compliance.

      • Demonstrates the ability to analyze problems and issues from a variety of perspectives and to understand legal, privacy, risk, and operational impact of decisions. Interprets significance of findings, resolves issues, makes recommendations, and offers solutions for Business decisions.

      • Oversees the development and implementation of corrective action plans in response to findings from audits, investigations, and other monitoring activities.

      • Manages external communications with physician practices, partners, and customers on compliance and privacy matters.

      • Provides guidance to and collaborates with compliance stakeholders and serves as a subject matter expert and resource with respect to compliance and privacy matters.

      • Serves as a subject matter consultant for the Practice Management Compliance and Legal teams and maintains a working knowledge of key laws and regulations that apply to Practice Management operations, including, but not limited to, HIPAA, the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Stark Law, and Medicare and Medicaid program requirements related to billing, coding, and medical record documentation.

      • Assists the Vice President, Compliance & Ethics, Practice Management in the recruitment, mentoring, training, and professional development of Practice Management Compliance personnel, including goal setting, performance, and talent management activities.

      • Develops written policies, procedures, and programs that promote the Business’s commitment to compliance in all areas identified as risks within the compliance and privacy program. Oversees activities to promote adherence to these policies, procedures, and programs.

      • Directs efforts to communicate compliance and privacy programs. This includes written materials, education and training programs that are designed specifically to promote understanding of compliance issues, laws, regulations, and privacy as well as consequences of non-compliance for the Business.

      • Strives for continuous improvement by focusing on employee engagement, customer relations, quality standards, and accountability.

      • Responds to and maintains the anonymous reporting and confidential compliance hotline, as well as compliance and privacy leads to respond to compliance and privacy-related questions, inquiries, or complaints.

      • Assists the Vice President, Compliance & Ethics, Practice Management in responding to regulatory audits and investigations conducted by federal and state agencies and contractors, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (DHHS-OIG), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and other third-party payers.

      • Assists the Vice President, Compliance & Ethics, Practice Management in preparing regular reports to senior management and governance on Compliance Program activities including work plan status, internal audit results, and recommendations to management.

      • Assists the Vice President, Compliance & Ethics, Practice Management in managing the day-to-day operations of the compliance and privacy program, including supervision of staff.

      • Coordinates activities, policies, compliance audits, and investigations with other McKesson compliance, legal, human resources, and internal audit personnel to assure that all programs are complementary.

      • Other duties as assigned.

      Minimum Requirements

      • 13+ years of professional experience to include healthcare regulatory experience.

      • 6+ years of diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation experience (or equivalent experience)

        • Strong analytical and organizational skills as well as problem-solving capabilities.

      Additional Knowledge & Skills

      • Strong knowledge of federal and state laws related to practice management and third-party payer and regulatory requirements related to healthcare billing and coding.

      • Prior experience working in the hospital or physician office setting in a compliance or legal role or prior health care law firm experience.

      • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism related to engaging with clinicians and provider support.

      • Proven ability to manage change.

      • Demonstrated project management and performance improvement skills.

      • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to ask the right questions to identify business challenges and objectives and strategize on how to overcome those challenges.

      • Strong problem-solving skills.

      • Experience influencing in a cross-functional matrixed environment.

      Education

      • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience - required.

      • Master’s degree in healthcare/related field or Juris Doctor degree - required.

      • Certification in health care compliance and privacy (CHC preferred; CHCR or CHPC acceptable) - required.

      Our Base Pay Range for this position

      $155,400 - $259,000
