      Position Overview:

      Directs and mentors relationship managers on the Corporate Partnerships team in developing and executing strategy to build strategic partnerships with top companies that bring in financial and intellectual resources to Ohio State to fuel the growth of research and innovation. Establishes effective collaboration with deans and other university leaders to understand needs and creates opportunities to support college/unit efforts. Builds and maintains corporate partnerships of the highest mutual value for the companies and Ohio State. Recognizes and initiates high-level opportunities to generate master research agreements, sponsored research projects, new grant opportunities, affinity/business opportunities, workforce development initiatives, and talent and experiential learning efforts. Serves as a consultant to corporate partners by collaborating to understand their investments, industry driven needs, and strategic direction, offering solutions that leverage Ohio State’s strengths, represent their individual needs, and add value to their business and the university. Partners with Associate Vice President, Corporate Partnerships and Executive Vice President of Research, Innovation & Knowledge in development of goals, strategic plan, and annual business planning efforts. Builds and maintains strong internal and external networks to drive innovation processes and interdisciplinary collaboration, ensure mutual value and cultivate long-term relationships. Represents and acts on behalf of Associate Vice President as needed.

      Job Duties:

      40%: Directs and mentors relationship managers on Corporate Partnerships team. Leads relationship managers in developing and executing multi-year strategy to build transformational strategic partnerships with top companies that bring in financial and intellectual resources to Ohio State to fuel the growth of research and innovation. Establishes effective collaboration with deans and other university leaders to understand needs and creates opportunities to support college/unit efforts.

      40%: Builds and maintains corporate partnerships of the highest mutual value for the companies and Ohio State with a focus on transformational partnerships of $5 million or more. Recognizes and initiates high-level opportunities to establish master research agreements, generate sponsored research projects, new grant opportunities, affinity/business opportunities, workforce development initiatives, and talent and experiential learning efforts. Serves as a consultant to corporate partners by collaborating to understand their investments, industry driven needs, and strategic direction, offering solutions that leverage Ohio State’s strengths, represent their individual needs, and add value to their business and the university. Understands the corporate partners’ goals, strategies, and processes, and proposes opportunities to add value beyond the partner’s immediate requests. Develops strong relationships with faculty and research leaders to identify areas of opportunity to build corporate support.

      10%: Partners with Associate Vice President, Corporate Partnerships and Executive Vice President for Research, Innovation & Knowledge in development of long and short-term goals, strategic plan, and annual business planning efforts. Continually evaluates efforts and optimizes for success.

      10%: Builds and maintains strong internal and external networks to drive innovation processes and interdisciplinary collaboration, ensure mutual value and cultivate long-term relationships. Represents and acts on behalf of Associate Vice President, Corporate Partnerships regularly as needed.

      Work Experience Required:

      12 years of leadership experience in business development or R&D environment; proven ability to lead high-performing teams and build industry-university partnerships at the highest level; deep experience in securing industry-sponsored research and thorough understanding of technology commercialization; exceptional communications skills; and collaborative mindset required.

      Work Experience Desired:

      15+ years of leadership experience in business development or R&D environment and thorough understanding of workforce development and talent recruiting preferred.

      Education Required:

      Master Degree in business, engineering, or relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

      Additional Information:

      The pay range for this job profile is $188,600 - $200,000.
