Data Strategy: Develop a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with our hospital's mission, vision, and strategic plan. Build, lead, and inspire a team of data engineers, data scientists, and BI developers.
Data Engineering: Oversee the development of a modern data architecture that includes data ingestion, data processing, and data storage. This will involve developing a robust data pipeline, implementing ETL processes, and ensuring data quality and integrity. Develop, manage, allocate and drive fiscal responsibility of the annual budget for the data and analytics Engineering departments.
Self-Service Platforms: Implement Self-Service platforms that enable hospital staff, and research departments to access and analyze data for real-time decision-making. This includes working closely with hospital departments to understand their data needs and working with product teams to build tools.
Advanced Analytics: Lead efforts to utilize AI and ML to uncover insights from our data and make predictive recommendations. This could include developing models to predict patient outcomes, optimize hospital operations, process streaming data, and identify trends and patterns in patient health.
Security & Compliance: Ensure all data operations adhere to privacy, security, and compliance standards such as HIPAA and other relevant regulations.
Stakeholder Management: Communicate effectively with data and analytics leaders and staff, patients, and other stakeholders about data initiatives. This includes translating complex data concepts into understandable insights and recommendations.
Architecture: Lead the development, publishing and maintenance of the organization’s information architecture, as well as a roadmap for its future development, ensuring that it aligns and supports business needs
Data Platform Management: Oversee the development and deployment of the enterprise’s data and analytics platform(s) to achieve the enterprise vision and goals including the integration and staging of data, and the development and maintenance of the data lakes, data warehouse, data marts, for use by analysts throughout the organization. Expand the enterprise’s offerings, especially in emerging analytical approaches, skills and technologies.
Develop, manage, allocate and drive fiscal responsibility of the annual budget for the data and analytics Engineering departments.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data and Analytics or related field. A Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field is preferred.
10+ years of experience in data engineering, data science, or related roles with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Expertise in modern data engineering, data warehousing, data lakes, and lake house architecture and tools such as Fivetran, DBT, ADF, DataRobot, Azure or AWS, DataBricks, Snowflake, Synapse etc...
Broad experience in multiple competency areas of data and analytics delivery including: data governance, data architecture, data integration, data classification, data analysis, data visualization, data quality management, data security and privacy, MDM, data standards, regulatory compliance and enterprise architecture frameworks.
Strong knowledge of BI tools and platforms such as PowerBI, Looker, ThoughtWorks or equivalent.
Epic Cogito tools experience is strongly preferred.
Experience with AI/ML tools and methods for data analysis.
Strong understanding of healthcare data and related privacy and security regulations.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing teams.
Excellent business acumen and interpersonal skills; able to work across business lines at a senior level to influence and effect change and drive performance improvement to achieve goals.
Demonstrated knowledge in evaluating, planning and implementing various analytics technology platforms, data structures, information systems/tools, related software and data management, enterprise content management.
Familiarity with healthcare information generation, information architecture, algorithm development and analysis methods.
Proven ability to develop a framework for information and analytics governance, as well as to sell and embed it in all levels of the business.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain data and analytics concepts and technologies to business leaders, and business concepts to technologists.
Establishes and maintains high standards for quality of care, & patient safety.
Takes initiative to improve both processes and outcomes, incorporating best practices, and innovations in professional field.
Ensures compliance with Lurie Children’s policies and all accreditation & regulatory bodies and their standards.

General Summary:
The Senior Director of Data Engineering & Advanced Analytics will play a pivotal role in leading the data and analytics transformation at Lurie Children’s Hospital, focusing on leveraging data to drive insights, decision-making, research platforms and improving patient outcomes. Successful candidate will have a strong background in modern data engineering, cloud-based Business Intelligence (BI) self-service platforms, and Advanced Analytics using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).
The Senior Director of Data Engineering & Advanced Analytics executes on deploying enterprise-wide solutions on a modern data stack designed for complex data challenges, including developing and applying algorithmic models to derive insights, improve decision making, and automate processes. The Senior Director of Data Engineering will manage Engineering, BI and Advanced Analytics resources and lead in the planning, evaluating, and selecting the right modern data platform capabilities, deploy self-service analytics for Lurie citizen data explorers and help distributed analytics staff to have industry aligned D&A skills, processes, and technologies.
