- Develop and implement maintenance strategies to improve manufacturing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and the reliability of all utility/facility systems to support manufacturing quality, OEE, and ultimately customer delivery On Time in Full (OTIF).
- Oversee all phases of capital projects, from planning and budgeting to execution and commissioning. Define, scope, and deliver on annual CapEx projects that support site objectives for productivity, growth, and maintaining business capital.
- Develop and implement robust Preventive Maintenance (PM)/Predictive Maintenance (PdM) processes and practices utilizing post PM and PdM audits to ensure high-quality work is performed. Ensure PM/PdM completion rates tie out closely to equipment uptime and reductions in scheduled downtime with an eye toward continuous improvement. Collaborate with production to schedule preventative maintenance activities.
- Drive the standardization of equipment and maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) inventory, while optimizing inventory levels to balance costs with potential downtime risks. Develop effective program for the maintenance of parts, procurement of supplies, and inventory management to achieve reliability and cost reduction/avoidance goals.
- Utilize maintenance staff feedback to assess operational issues with training or equipment that led to unnecessary unscheduled downtime. Work closely with manufacturing team to commit action items or corrective measures as needed to improve overall production performance. Seek opportunities to transition basic maintenance duties to operational staff where feasible to free up mechanics for more complex skillset activities.
- Prioritize, plan, schedule, kit, and execute on maintenance, facility, and utility system work orders that improve safety, quality, and asset reliability performance.
- Instill a culture of constant vigilance in all team members to proactively identify and mitigate safety risks throughout all facilities, reporting all safety hazards and potential unsafe working conditions, and enforcing all safety and cGMP policies and procedures.
- Craft maintenance budget and CapEx budgets, including a component of capital project funding, monitoring expenditures, and working to meet budget commitments to support business operations.
- Develop and build a high performing, agile team.
- Occasionally required to travel to all sites within the Mooresville, NC area (less than 10 miles).
- Direct or indirect supervision of 50-100 staff to include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding, and administering corrective actions; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Coach and lead staff to make data-driven decisions to avoid and reduce unplanned downtime, improve yield, and improve product quality.
- Monitor technician workloads and skillsets to continually refine and improve internal knowledge base; determine appropriate staffing levels and allocations; and create a deep “bench” for succession planning.
- Develop a pipeline of future leaders and develop talent.
- Bachelor's degree in technical engineering or manufacturing discipline.
- 12 years’ experience in a technical maintenance and/or CapEx role.
- 10 years’ direct people management or leadership experience, demonstrating the ability to direct, lead, and coach employees within direct span of control, as well as the ability to work cross-functionally with peers and support group resources to achieve results.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Total Productive Maintenance, Reliability Centered Maintenance, or other world class maintenance and reliability strategies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of industrial manufacturing and facility systems.
- Proven track record demonstrating strong financial and cost management skills, as well as the ability to meet budget commitments.
- Proven ability to lead, direct, and integrate cross-functional, cross-organizational, multi-disciplinary, and virtual project teams to meet business objectives.
- Ability to guide teams through changes in process, policy, and procedures. Inspires and motivates others to perform at the highest level.
- Ability to drive and appropriately prioritize requirements and activities.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP/MRP, and CMMS systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, utilize time efficiently, and multi-task in an ever changing, fast-paced environment.
- Must be able/available to work irregular or extended hours and potentially holidays as needed.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Experience in senior management or executive leadership in maintenance and/or CapEx Engineering within an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Significant experience in a food safety or pharmaceutical cGMP regulated environment. Knowledge of cGMP, FDA, EPA and OSHA rules and regulations.
- Experience implementing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Experience in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and controls troubleshooting.
- Experience with SAP.

The Senior Director, Maintenance & Engineering owns the day-to-day maintenance, CapEx engineering, and facility activities for all SCN BestCo Mooresville locations. This position provides strategic and tactical direction to maintenance, capital expenditure (CapEx) engineering and facility oversight to improve and increase the reliability of manufacturing equipment, processes, utility, facility, controls, and safety/security systems. The Senior Director, Maintenance & Engineering leads by example to promote the high standards of accountability for safety, standard operating procedures (SOPs), current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs), and housekeeping expected of all SCN BestCo staff.
