      The Position

      The Senior Director provides leadership and supervision to a team of Market Access National and Regional Account Managers (NAMs and RAMs) focused on either BioPharm or Obesity and develops and implements strategies that increase profitability and achieve organizational objectives. Scope of work has a broad impact on cross-functional areas within NNI. Serve as a senior advisor in dedicated therapeutic area, both locally and globally, and has regular interface with Senior Leadership team members. Actively contributes to the Market Access and Public Affairs leadership team (MAPA LT) in assisting shaping strategy, structure, and culture.

      The Senior Director will lead the development and implementation of payer, specialty channel and/or reimbursement strategies at the local, regional, and national level. Customers include regional and local health plans, PBMs State Government entities, and third-party payers (Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, etc).

      The Senior Director focuses on both regional and national level initiatives. National interests include work with employee benefit coalitions and emerging customers, while assisting the NAMs in strengthening branded Anti-Obesity Medication (AOM) offerings from the largest PBMs and payers. At the regional level, they will direct the team on their assigned employer targets, Health System obesity targets, employer targets and ensure focus on improving the overall reimbursement landscape for AOMs in key targeted areas. They will also ensure interconnectivity across Payers, Health Systems, Coalitions and EBCs. Partnering closely with the Regional Account Management team, the Obesity Account Managers will lead efforts with identified large employers to ensure AOMs are adopted as part of a standard pharmacy benefit offered by employers through Health Plans and PBMs.

      Relationships

      Reports to the VP, Market Access Area Accounts and has direct supervisory responsibility for National and Regional Account Managers.

      Other internal relationships include all other Market Access & Public Affairs teams, Finance, Contracting and Pricing, Sales, Marketing, Field Medical, Legal, Compliance, and other key stakeholders.

      External relationships include various interactions with Customer Executives, Medical, Pharmacy, Quality, Health Economics, and other key personnel, as well as other key organizations and strategic partners.

      Essential Functions

      • Lead and develop team members with a focus on managing to business expectations while also supporting individual development aspirations and fostering a positive team culture
      • Develop and implement comprehensive team strategy, ensuring alignment with MAPA and Enterprise priorities, while applying a balanced approach that take into account customer and stakeholder objectives. Continuously evaluate and adjust as needed
      • Proactively explore and evaluate potential/emerging needs and opportunities and swiftly develop corresponding actions
      • Direct/oversee the development of prioritized business plans that exemplify a best-in-class account management team. Ensure comprehensive focus on delivery-of-care structure, customer identification/prioritization, competitive environment, legislation, success requirements, resource utilization, and future trends
      • Oversee area implementation of, and monitor performance against, strategic account management objectives/directives
      • Develop and manage account targeting strategy and objectives, as well as set implementation requirements that take into account brand value propositions, clinical insights, quality and health economics positioning and product specifications
      • Build and maintain strategic networks of relationships internally (locally and globally) and externally (with Customers, stakeholders, partner organizations, associations, and other key groups)
      • Communicate with local and global colleagues, as needed, apprising them of US plans and programs
      • Key liaison with Sales and Marketing, ensuring market access opportunities and understanding is incorporated into relevant plans
      • Provide input into the development of related incentive programs
      • Coordinate with, provide education to, and communicate proactively with internal stakeholders to effectively collaborate and inform
      • Oversee all contracts for relevant products. Set strategy and have direct involvement with contract development and negotiation when necessary
      • Work with Legal and Pricing to provide detailed assessment and interpretation of key legislation including business implications, financial impact and recommended response
      • Administrative: Develop and monitor performance against budget; Establish, oversee implementation, and monitor adherence to administrative policies and procedures; Evaluate appropriate use of resources to ensure attainment of strategic account and NNI profitability goals; Review and audit expense reports

      Physical Requirements

      25-30% overnight travel required.

      Development of People

      Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

      Qualifications

      • A Bachelor's degree in business or a related field required. Advanced Degree preferred (MBA or scientific degree.
      • A minimum of 12 years of progressive pharmaceutical/healthcare experience required with an in-depth knowledge of account management and relevant therapeutic area
      • Strong background in commercial leadership
      • Proven track record of results
      • Record of success managing a geographically dispersed team
      • Strong background in account and relationship management
      • Successful experience working in a matrixed organizational structure
