      SENIOR DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT: COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

      The University of Alabama at Birmingham

      The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Senior Director of Development for the College of Arts and Sciences with excellent fundraising skills and knowledge of creating development strategies for complex projects. The incumbent will have demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategies for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individuals, corporations, and foundations for major and principal gifts.

      The Senior Director is expected to meet/exceed established metrics on an annual basis – including dollars, visits, solicitations, and proposals presented goals. The incumbent must be able to function as an integral part of a team in designing and implementing successful fundraising programs which include annual giving, planned giving, and principal, major and mid-level gifts to maximize philanthropic support for the College.

      This position will also lead and direct a staff of development and alumni professionals assigned to the College. This position will report to the Associate Vice President for Development and coordinate his or her daily activities with the Dean and other University officials.

      Travel is required for this position.

      This position is hybrid-eligible after the probationary period.

      Key Duties and Primary Responsibilities:

      • Build and manage a portfolio of high-worth prospects to raise major and principal gifts from multiple donor groups (corporates, foundations, alumni, and community).
      • Work with the Dean, Department chairs, and faculty to identify fundraising priorities and potential sources of private gift support and develop appropriate strategies for generating major and principal gifts to support the College.
      • Manage an overall strategic vision for the development and alumni office, including developing and implementing fundraising strategies and plans, hiring, and coaching/developing all team members.
      • Function as an integral part of the Dean’s Office Leadership Team, partner with the communications team to highlight alumni and donors and oversee the college's stewardship efforts.

      Salary Range: $85,600 - $130,000

      • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business or a related field
      • Minimum of seven years of higher education fundraising or related experience required
      • Minimum of three years of major gift experience with demonstrated success

      Preferred Additional Qualifications:

      • Ability to conceive, plan, and implement fundraising programs that focus on building internal and external relationships
      • Ability to lead and mentor a development staff while also successfully meeting performance metrics
      • Advanced knowledge of foundations
      • Advanced board management
      • Excellent written and verbal communication
      • Experience in higher education
      • Strong organizational, process, and planning skills
