- Provide long-range vision, administration of, and general operating plans for Museum programming.
- Establish and manage relationships with local, national, and international partners to enhance the Museum’s programs.
- Conduct evaluations of exhibit function, educational effectiveness, accessibility, and degree of visitor engagement.
- Articulate and implement the Museum’s brand in all internal and external events.
- Formulate pricing guides, policies, and procedures for space rental and other Museum usage that is consistent with the Museum’s vision and goals.
- Devise and implement strategies to increase earned revenue for the Museum, including but not limited to rental revenue, group sales, parking and other revenue generating opportunities
- Develop a comprehensive volunteer needs assessment for Museum activities.
- Develop a volunteer recruitment and retention plan which supports the Museum’s mission, growth, and needs.
- Ensure volunteer engagement and appreciation by developing an orientation program and ongoing training opportunities.
- Define and monitor income and expense goals for the operating and capital expenditure budgets of all supervised departments.
- Oversee Facilities and Protective Services team.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in a museum environment or business operations role, with 5 years of management experience.
- Ability to communicate a clear vision and gain alignment with senior leaders.
- Experience in leading and facilitating collaborative agendas across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience in overseeing revenue-generating programs.
- Strong contract negotiation skills.
- Large scope project management experience ; a bility to effectively coordinate and track multiple projects simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Honest, ethical and professional demeanor to align with all Core Values of the Museum.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and collaborate with all levels of the organization, including executive and senior leadership teams.

Cleveland Museum of Natural History
The Cleveland Museum of Natural History (CMNH), founded in 1920, is located in the heart of University Circle, five miles east of downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Considered one of the finest institutions of its kind in North America, the Museum offers an incredible visitor experience, attracting roughly 275,000 visitors a year. There are more than 140 public education programs and over 70,000 students served annually. The Museum employs about 125 people.
Building on its strong foundation of excellence in education and research, the Museum is reinventing the Museum experience with an expansion, a complete reimagining of its campus and all its exhibits, and the addition of new public spaces. The Museum has launched a capital campaign to support this dramatic renovation. This ambitious plan will position the Museum to play a leading role in regional and national efforts to improve science education and increase scientific literacy.
Job Summary:
The Senior Director of Museum Services contributes to the mission of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and will be instrumental in executing the Museum’s vision. This position is responsible for the breadth and scope of the Museum’s work and provides leadership in the areas of Visitor Experience, Facilities and Protective Services, Private Rentals, Special Public Programming and Volunteer Engagement. Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, the Senior Director collaborates with key members of the senior leadership team to support the growth of the Museum by identifying, shaping, executing, and evaluating core strategic goals to reach a wider audience. This key role is also responsible for ongoing ideation and planning for new permanent exhibits and temporary installations.
