      Position Overview

      Butler University is seeking a focused and energized leader to guide and oversee its entire online education and educational technology operation. This highly collaborative leader will work across the university, engage with all seven colleges, credit and non-credit programs, partner academic affairs, faculty, enrollment operations, student success, compliance, marketing, and institutional research to ensure success of Butler’s online programs. In partnership with academic leadership, the senior director will formulate strategies and management solutions to propel Butler’s operational excellence in online education with growth in quality programs, courses, and students.

      The Senior Director for Online Education and Educational Technology will be accountable to and work to manage the online and digital education programs, curriculum quality, and compliance of Butler’s operations to bring assurance to the availability, use, quality, rigor, and management of its educational technology. The senior director will lead two teams: 1) the digital learning team who develops online programs and courses and 2) the academic partnerships team who supports all educational technology needed to facilitate and enhance learning in an online modality.

      Knowledge and professional experiences commensurate with leading teams, skills and knowledge in online education and pedagogy, assessment of online quality and market demands, as well as keen insight around procurement, maintenance, reporting, and use of education technology will serve as assets. This position reports to the University Provost and has a dotted line to the Associate Vice President of Transformation.

      Note: This is not a remote position. However, candidates who prefer to reside in locations remote to Indianapolis may be considered.       Responsibilities
      • Lead digital learning and academic partnerships teams.
      • Plan for and seek growth for Butler’s online presence.
      • Coordinate all activities associated with online education programs and serve as the online education expert for the Butler community.
      • Lead an operational plan and co-create an online strategy with academic and operational partners for continuous improvement.
      • Support and guide Butler’s online education efforts.
      • Ensure all online programs, offices, and colleges work together and align operational priorities for defined outcomes and accountability.
      • Provide oversight to the online learning operations team,
      • Ensure effective and regular campus-wide academic partner communication
      • Perform annual program assessments, including analysis of student satisfaction with online course content, delivery, and relevance and faculty satisfaction with course development, delivery, and education technology.
      • Account for online compliance standards and quality assurance processes.
      • Oversee and report on quality assessment policies, procedures, and processes for the university’s online courses.
      • Establish or coordinate in bringing to bear needed standard operating procedures for online education and education technology
      • Coordinate assessment of training needs and implement training for quality and compliance particularly in writing and teaching online courses.
      • Collaborate with colleges on growth strategies via online with market alignment.
      • Instill a cultural environment which supports team members to succeed and thrive.
      • Lead reviews and recommendations on new educational technology tools to enhance stakeholder experience.
      • Partner in curriculum production, course production, LMS and all online tools.
      • Manage and oversee the operational budget for the university’s online portfolio (including online course development, ed tech tools, etc.).
      • Contribute to Butler’s diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging strategy and lead the team to apply this lens to their work.

      Required Qualifications
      • Master’s degree (certification/training in education technology a plus)
      • Minimum five years’ experience working in online education and/or educational technology fields.
      • Minimum of five years’ experience working in higher education.
      • Demonstrated leadership experience, specifically in leading cross-departmental or cross-functional teams, projects, or initiatives.
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and build relationships with stakeholders.
      • Proficiency in Learning Management Systems, Microsoft Office, and other educational technology tools.
      • Experience and knowledge in online compliance standards.
      • Knowledge of state and federal regulatory standards
      • Comfortable in a dynamic startup environment, including significant amounts of autonomy.
      • Dedicated to building an inclusive learning and work environment for an increasingly diverse student population.
      • Passionate about extended access to higher education and student learning.

      Preferred Qualifications
      • Doctorate Degree in any related field
      • Project Management certification
      • Education or/formal training in instructional design, curriculum development, educational technology, and or leadership
      • Quality Matters Higher Education Certification (or equivalent)
      • Peer-reviewed Published Scholarship in areas related to online education, technology, and diversity
      • Previous experience interacting with diverse communities and with cultures other than their own.
      • Interest in developing and implementing curricula.
      • Demonstrated experience in online assessment.
      • Business acumen in evaluating program viability and establishing growth projection strategies.
      • Knowledge of enrollment strategies and market viability planning.
