      Responsibilities

      As TSNE’s newest initiative, Shared Services provides a one-stop solution for nonprofits seeking a trusted, mission-aligned partner to help manage “back-office” organizational finances and operations, and “front-office” consulting in organizational development, strategy, and operations. As a new initiative, Shared Services will be developed and rolled out in phases, with an initial focus on “back-office” finance related services, including payroll and accounting services. Subsequent phases may include a range of services such as Human Resources, organizational development, fund development, evaluation, communication, and other areas as identified. Additionally, TSNE will explore the development of a cooperative ownership model whereby nonprofits can participate in a collectively owned collaborative for these services.

      The Senior Director of Shared Services (SDSS) will be responsible for developing and implementing operational strategies including business development, hiring and supervising staff, and managing the coordination and administration of TSNE’s Shared Services; ensuring effective service delivery, process, procedures and controls are developed and implemented; ensuring ongoing quality assessment and improvement; and ensuring team development.

      The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of the nonprofit sector, with understanding of the needs of smaller, community-based nonprofits led by and/or serving marginalized communities desirable; a minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in a leadership position (program, department, executive) in a nonprofit organization; significant experience managing organizational finances, operations, and strategy and business development with expertise in organizational development; a clearly articulated and demonstrated commitment to equity and racial equity; a collaborative and solution-focused sensibility; and possess strong and clear writing and oral communication skills. Additionally, the ideal candidate will thrive in a start-up environment; have strong organizational and planning skills; can work well in collaborative environments and navigate shared staffing models; and understand how to work facilitatively with multiple internal and external stakeholders.

      Leadership and Management

      • Lead with a collaborative spirit and supervise the Shared Services Team in support of its portfolio of nonprofit organizations.
      • Ensure the Shared Services staff support the needs of client organizations.
      • Oversee the professional growth of staff within the department with an emphasis on excellence in customer service, a focus on nonprofit organizational and operational support and other areas that support general organizational health.
      • Manage the work of Shared Services including ensuring equitable work distribution among the staff, coordination of cross-functional collaboration, and maintaining open communication and ongoing evaluation of staff, workflows, policies and procedures.
      • Assist with recruiting new Shared Service staff members and develop and lead onboarding and training for new staff.
      • Partner with departmental leaders to review, revise, and implement new policies and procedures for Shared Services and the organization overall.
      • Ensure that staff employ a collaborative, cross-functional and enterprise oriented, and organizational values aligned and equity centered lens to their work.
      • Manage enterprise-wide strategic projects as needed.

      Shared Service Program Development and Operations

      • In partnership with TSNE leadership, develop and build the Shared Services initiative including researching and developing a cooperative ownership model.
      • Identify, understand, and analyze the needs of the sector to better inform the development of Shared Services offerings.
      • Develop, implement, and maintain a policy and process for developing and supporting Shared Service clients throughout their relationship lifecycle with TSNE.
      • Building on existing TSNE operational policies and procedures, develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for Shared Services that meet the goals of the program in an efficient and effective manner.
      • Partner with departmental leaders to identify and address continuous improvement opportunities for Shared Services including addressing complex, strategic operational issues within the client portfolio.
      • Provide support on matters related to Shared Services including serving as a point of escalation when challenges arise in the portfolio.
      • Ensure a proactive approach to mitigating operational issues, complaints, and risks with the Shared Service portfolio.
      • Work with other TSNE departments to build out and scale Shared Service offerings.

      New Business Development

      • In partnership with the Communications and Marketing team, develop an outreach, marketing, and business development strategy to reach new clients.
      • Conduct outreach to prospective Shared Service clients.
      • Attend, speak at, and participate in conferences, professional networks, and other external events.

      Complete other tasks and projects related to the job, as needed.

      • Eight or more years of experience in a nonprofit leadership position.
      • Strong supervision experience required.
      • Strong project management skills.
      • Outstanding relationship management skills with significant experience.
      • Experience in designing and implementing a program or service line.
      • Able to see the big picture and have a vision.
      • Have a learning mindset.
      • Experience working on and/or with advisory boards.
      • Some nonprofit organizational development experience.
      • Some experience with fundraising and development.
      • Some experience working in grants and finance management highly desirable.
      • Proficiency with MS Office suite.
      • Understanding of cooperative and/or shared working models a plus.
      • Knowledge in Salesforce, Intacct, and/or Concur is a plus.
      • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
      • Demonstrated skill in providing a high level of service to multiple clients, ideally in a nonprofit context.
      • Experience working as part of a team delivering coordinated services highly desirable.
      • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated diplomacy and tact.
      • Good creative problem-solving skills.
      • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
      • Commitment to the work of social and economic justice organizations.

      Physical Dem ands/Work Environment

      The physical demands described for this position are that of a typical office environment.       Location: Work will be performed between our office located at the NonProfit Center at 89 South Street, Suite 700, Boston, MA 02111 and your home office. This position is required to be on-site at least once per month and may require flexibility.

      Schedule: This position is full-time at 37.5 hours per week and hours are flexible within reason.

      Compensation and Benefits

      Compensation: The salary for this position is $173,280.
