      Position Overview:

      GEICO is seeking an experienced and visionary SRE Director to join the organization and aid the establishment and growth of the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practice for Data Center and Network engineering. As an SRE Leader, you will be responsible for leading and driving data center and network engineering initiatives to enhance the reliability, availability, performance, and security of Geico’s private and public cloud infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Data Center and Network Engineering, Security, and IaaS/PaaS/Application Software Development, to ensure robust data center and network architecture and software solutions and seamless operations. This role combines technical expertise, leadership, and strategic thinking to drive continuous improvement in reliability and scalability.

      Key Responsibilities:

      Technical Leadership:

      • Provide strategic direction and technical leadership to drive excellence in data center and network engineering practices ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and minimal downtime.
      • Drive the design, architecture, and implementation of robust and scalable data center and network platforms including reliability practices for deploying and managing ODM HW, open source Linux based FW, NOS and server OS, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.

      Team Management:

      • Build and nurture a high-performing SRE team, providing mentorship, coaching, and guidance to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
      • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical HW defects, system issues and complex network incidents, minimizing impact on service availability.

      Collaboration and Communication:

      • Present a reliable vision and strategic recommendations with clarity and concision to stakeholders having varying degrees of SRE fluency.
      • Develop and own relationships with technology and business partners.
      • Improve your team's performance reporting, focus on impact, and bring transparency to critical workflows.
      • Expand the team by lobbying for additional resources and recruiting new open positions.
      • Manage department budgets, resource allocation, and vendor relationships to optimize costs and maintain high-quality outcomes.

      Qualifications:

      • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Advanced degree preferred.
      • Proven experience in a leadership role focused on software defined and software driven data center and network engineering within a complex, large-scale production environments.
      • Knowledge of high-performance system architectures, cloud efficiency, observability etc., is strongly desired.
      • Strong knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and best practices related to network design and architecture, including network segmentation, routing, load balancing, DNS, IPAM and traffic engineering, software-defined networking (SDN) principles, protocols (e.g., OpenFlow, BGP), controllers and orchestrators (e.g., OpenDaylight, ONOS, Kubernetes) and their integration with hardware-defined components.
      • Deep expertise with Linux ecosystem including deploying, managing, and troubleshooting large scale Linux operating systems deployments, including in embedded systems (e.g. OpenBMC) and in network applications (SONiC)
      • Experience with data center infrastructure and configuration management technologies, tools and ecosystems (e.g. OpenCompute, Open Infrastructure, RedFish, ODIM, Netbox, Puppet, Chef)
      • Experience with open source management and monitoring tools (e.g. Cacti, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana)
      • Deep knowledge of SRE practices, methodologies, and principles, along with a solid understanding of on prem and public cloud based network, compute and storage technologies.
      • Expertise in incident management processes, including creating incident response playbooks, incident triaging strategies, and post-incident analysis to drive continuous improvement in system reliability and availability.
      • Experience with infrastructure automation, tooling, and configuration management frameworks (e.g., Kubernetes, Ansible, Terraform, etc.).
      • Excellent leadership and team management skills with a passion for mentoring and fostering professional growth.
      • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for driving operational efficiency.
      • Experience in budget management, resource allocation, and vendor collaboration.


      Annual Salary

      $195,000.00 - $315,000.00

      The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
